WBAI marketplace

WBAI's hide-and-go-seek manager, Berthold Reimers, maintains a low profile, but not a peep has been heard from him during the ultra long fund drive that supposedly ends today.

Of course, we don't miss his presence, but it would be nice if authentic tally amounts were made available. This time. as usual, the bottom line figures given by the treasurer  are lower than the totals imagined and privately mumbled by Reimers, but even if Gary Null didn't sell any of his $400 water purifiers, something changed hands over or under the counter. Frankly, the secrecy these people operate under clearly indicates that money is being manipulated in a way that does not benefit WBAI. How many times have we been told that a proper telephone call-in system is being installed? How many out-and-out, potentially deadly scams must listeners be victimized with before the WBAI asylum's inmates speak up? How low into the morass of deception and degradation will they sink this radio station before the decent among them come to their senses?

According to R. Paul Martin, the overpaid station chief is in Ireland, an untimely trip that raises its own questions, but WBAI faithful and former LSB member Mitchel Cohen has another question for this station stowaway: Is the WBAI marketplace selling anything?

Mitchel Cohen is among the few station associates who has expressed his dissatisfaction with the way things are being mismanaged, but he is also a major apologist for Reimers and his view of WBAI's programing is a stubborn Fall leaf in the wind. Having said that, I still wish his line in the sand were thinner, but at least he isn't a total sellout.

Today, Mitchel raised a flag via an email letter to Berthold Reimers. If he ever reads this letter, it will probably be deleted sans response, but here it is. What do you think is going on?

  1. Since when does sending out packages even matter? Give me a break. No doubt there is less and less to send out, as fewer premiums are sold, and others are pdf files sent via email. And they still can't keep up with mailing packages. What a joke.

I bet televangelists are better at sending people their crap than WBAI.

    1. II think you are right regarding those televangelists, although I do recall seeing, a few decades ago, a letter reprinted in The New Yorker. A lady sent $25 to the Oral Roberts organization in return for which she was to receive an inscribed, blessed prayer plate.

When months went by and she didn't receive her "gift" , the lady wrote Mr. Roberts an inquiry/complaint.

The televangelist's multi-million dollar responded with a swift reply.

We are sorry to hear that you have not received your blessed fulfillment gift...

      ...we pray that you will.

    2. Nice, Chris! Under Trumpanzee-a-'man'-of-G_d this may become inscribed in contract law & tort. In current Saudi labour law if an employee doesn't do something they only have to say 'inshallah' (hey, that's up to G_d, dude), & they can't be reprimanded. But as we know, in that country, as elsewhere, law is law, reality is something else.

    4. Prayer plate? Well, more useful than a little prayer blanket, I guess, if you receive it, that is.

  2. does anyone have actual knowledge of how much change there has been in premiums - in product sales vs. electronic sendings ?

Can it be true that most, what %? of premiums are no longer 'sent' vs. e-sent somehow, not involving any work but pushing a keyboard ?

who knows ? which stations reveals anything about it's doings?

Can it really have become so wide a gap between what we humans think we can feel with our senses [stuff] vs. what we read on some machine called "computer", even if in phone form? really ? already?

we are always guessing here because no one [inside] is telling it's paying public - us, the donating $$$ audience of radio and goers to their sponsored events - what is really happening !

the constant complaint of LACK OF TRANSPARENCY and thus secrecy, cover up, 'coups', non-payment of rents,, beginnings [not endings only] of lawsuits, et al. just continues...

does anyone else wonder Why there is any dedication, loyalty, payments made to, such a stealthy organization, one that keeps Bragging about it's being more honest because it is 'not commercial' - but in actions behaves as the worst they condemn ? huh ?

When does Distrust kick in to become non-payment,& not trying to be voted/selected 'in' to any LSB then PNB ?
To not become part-of what is so blatantly wrong & secretive !

When do our own personal values rise above the desire for 'belonging' and power of any position in a media company=corporation ?

and when does "hope" and long-past stories of glory of Pacifica-before transform into Current REALity as the stations exist, are run, operate and dysfunction right now ?

as an 'oddity' enterprise or an unusual group of persevering idealists, the attraction to the horror drama that is & continues to play out as "Pacifica" or any 1 radio station is a strange desire and attraction.

wonder why ? I do wonder and ask .

  3. This is great news Chris. All those people who literally waited months and years to get their premiums have received them. Right? Soon all the membership lists will be updated right? The money saved from the ESRT debacle will be used to improve the station and studio right? Right?.....Right?

  4. a strange reply from the writer pirate here who claims someone is lying, but who is he referring to in his comment? writing that : "In other words, someone is lying."

Who is pirate accusing, that must mean he knows who was there and what happened? or is in denial or collusion or enabling ? Was it the woman who was threatened? the police ? the man who was furiously shouting he would hurt her physically ? or whom ?

what does that incongruous comment mean - it doesnt sound impartial or objective, of course.
