And the beat goes on?
The Pacifica National Board met on an urgent matter (Life beyond loans) Monday, July 10. 2018.
Readers may be interested to know that 'Notices & News' at pacifica.org gives a one-sentence report (6 July) on last Thursday's PNB closed session, disclosing that it "approved the hiring of an auditor for FY2017 audit". The default secrecy culture suffusing the Foundation, both an unthinking & a conscious aversion to openness, meant that the author of this report, Ms Kobren (PNB Secretary), couldn't bring herself to name the auditors even though the report they're being hired to produce will be published for all the world to see. It's not only nuns who have habits.
So the FY2017 audit? If the NETA monkeys can create usable FY2017 records, & then derive draft financial statements by, say, the end of either August or September, if the audit takes three months it'll be completed by either the end of November or in time for Christmas. If, if, ...
If the auditors are also hired for the FY2018 work (the PNB report is silent on this), suitably refreshed they can then wade into the swamp again. But soon our pioneers will be engulfed by PTSD, withdrawn from the front, the replacement platoon stumbling on to the finish, at which point their employer will, with deep regret, decline Pacifica's offer to be retained. So another auditor will have to start from scratch, spending time at listeners' expense, learning the four-dimensional labyrinth that is PacificaAccountsWorld.
PTSD, the fear of it, & an auditor's duty to maintain a safe working environment for their employees, have meant that since FY2007 only one firm has ventured into a third year with Pacifica (Armanino, FY2012 thru 2014). The prospect of scaling a third peak was just too much for PMB Helin Donovan (veterans of FY2008 & 2009), Ross Wisdom (2010 & 2011), & Doug & his Regalia associates (2015 & 2016).
(The hiring of NETA was authorised during the 7 June PNB closed session. It is not known publicly when they started work, the person-hours per week, the qualifications & experience of the workers (apropos Kim's calculation), & whether, after perhaps three weeks probing the labyrinth, they know enough to formulate a timetable extending to when the auditors can be invited in to sample the accounts & ask a question or three. http://pacifica.org/documents/pnb_exec_180607.pdf )
The Trumpanzee gets in on a key Pacifica debate: "I [the incomparable Piers Morgan] asked Trump, a man used to flying on big private planes, what he thought was the coolest thing about this one. 'I’ve known great planes, but this is Air Force One and I think the coolest thing of this plane is: it’s Air Force One'". (Obviously the punctuation is Morgan's embellishment.) But The Trumpanzee was uncharacteristically modest: he's known great great planes.
By the way, Our Very Stable Genius announced, for the first time, he will stand in 2020: Four More Years! Four More Years! Four More Years! Go TeamUSA! Go TeamUSA! Go TeamUSA! "Well I fully intend to. It seems like everybody wants me to."
(Pacifica wormed its way into all this in a second way: Morgan has interviewed Trump almost as many times, "at least 35", as Doug Henwood has interviewed Yanis Varoufakis – fact.)

ReplyDeleteIt's a color photo that I altered. I'm glad you like it.
DeletePay attention Chris. Now that they've lulled everyone to sleep, this is when the crazy proposals
ReplyDeletesuddenly appear for consideration.
