The disagreeable agreement...

There is no good reason why this controversial lease agreement was kept a secret by Pacifica, but—as always—there was much to hide. Although it is no longer active—having been pushed aside by what may well prove to be an equally unwise judgement—making it public serves as another concrete illustration of how the incompetent bozos vandalized the Pacifica so many of us once had good reason to support.

Contract or death sentence?

  1. We still don't know the terms of the new WBAI broadcasting lease, or what the monthly payment (including the amortized cost of the new transmitter) will be.

    1. True, and when they keep us in the dark, it does not bode well.

    2. BTW, what happened to the delinquent pension fund payments?

  3. When I saw the length of that, I said to myself, "I'm not reading all that." Then I realized that is probably what the people who should have read it also said and did...

    1. You may well be right, SDL.

I hope you're doing well, healing.

    2. Thank you for asking. Yes, I am. In fact, according to my doctor, I am doing exceptionally well. I'll spare the gross details (unlike RPM), but now the cut I had on my toe, which got seriously infected and had to be operated on, is a tiny scab. If you know what it looked like late January/early February, you'd think my healing abilities are super human, which they kind of are, I guess.

To give you an idea of how seriously infected it was, the first doctor in the hospital recommended amputation. When I said, "No, I'd rather die," the next doctor said they could save it and explained everything that would have to be done.

Anyway, I am pretty much mended and just awaiting the last little bit to heal.

Did I ever mention that I had a radio in the hospital and mainly listened to WFDU and WKCR? WFMU came in too weak and noisy, and WBAI was more intolerable than usual because of my situation. I did catch OTH, though.

    3. Sounds far more serious than I thought. All the more reason to celebrate your u-turn.

And you did it without Null, Kathy D. or as much as a drop of the Double Helix. :)

    4. No, no help from the Whack Pack or their offerings. I really feel sorry for anyone who would have been in my position and looked for their "alternative medicine." That infection would probably have cost them more than a toe in the long run.

People like Null and all can spew their shit all they want, but they aren't doctors. Reading about things in publications (through their skewed minds) is no replacement for education and experience.

I sometimes wonder how many people have been hurt or died because of these quack health gurus. The one doctor I spoke to told me how more and more people who have been following the current fad health guru diets and advice are coming in with all sorts of maladies due to improper nutrition.

      Go figure...

    5. I have long surmised that the fake medical advice WBAI dispenses ranks high among the station's many disservices to its understandably dwindling listener/supporters.

  4. Perhaps its time to hear from the source:
    GM Report to LSB 4/11/18

WBAI has exhausted the good will of the network. Regardless of how we feel about the way the
contracts were signed in the past without WBAI's consent. This is our chance to be in the black.
This means we need to be able to pay:

    4 Times Square $16,000 a month
    National Office $16,890 a month
    PRA $4222.00 per month

We are currently paying the National Office 1/2 but that is not counting the bequest from Jim
Krivo that would pay for the difference ($100,000 last fiscal year) and $58,000 this fiscal year.
Regardless, we would be fine if WBAI gets a combination of the following:

Raised our fund drive to $15,000 per day instead of about $12,000
    Received CPB funds again
    double our grants
Increase BAI buddies by 2,000 buddies or
    Increase theater tickets
Encourage the current buddies to donate $30 per month instead of the average $15.
We have a combination of these solutions

The ball is on our court. We need to raise $35,000 per month to comfortably meet all of our obligations.

    1. These are 35K a month in "new" expenses and some of the ways we can pay these "new" expenses.

(they are "new" because we simply didn't feel they were fair in the past, so we didn't pay them)

  5. 16K+17K+4k=37K a month. and that doesn't include studio rent, salaries, insurance, benefits, phone, and equipment, payroll taxes, postage, printing, office supplies, etc. 35K a month my ass...

    2. I do not use the designation lightly when I say that these are crooks. The fundraisers at WBAI are scams with willing participants whose only interest in WBAI/Pacifica is personal gain.

Don't expect to see any breakdown of marathon expenses/income. Don't expect anything approaching honesty from these leeches.
