Finger in the wind approach...

Words by the PNB members at their September 10, 2018 Strategy Committee telephonic meeting. Observations by Indigopirate (pro tem), who cranked up a discarded Victrola and pointed it west.

Indigo:
As ever, Pacifica drifts, at times in overt acrimony, at times in ‘discussions’ that lead nowhere. As ever, its listenership drifts in turn, ever lower, as indebtedness grows, unaddressed other than in passing reference, occasional entreaty, action never taken.

This evening, the PNB Strategic Planning Committee, the unvarying pattern:

The Finance Working Group, hasn’t met.

Nor has the Programming Working Group.

Nor has the Governance/Mission Working Group.

Tell you what, let’s have a discussion. How about discussing… Underwriting?

It might raise some money.

Yes, but it would support Capitalism, and we’re Anti-Capitalism.

It would be a slippery slope.

But it might reduce or replace the health scams, etc.

Yes, but who would decide what’s acceptable, or not?

Yes, but on the other hand…?

Get the idea?

Nothing happens. Hasn’t for decades, why start now?

Of course listenership continues to decline…

How about a Survey!?

The Indigo Pirate’s Summary:

‘What, you want to Do Something?’

Never happen.

Never say Never?

It’s okay. In this case, you can safely say Never.

  1. The Strategic Planning Committee is taking a holistic view of the foundation and its position in the marketplace of ideas. Think of it as an interdepartmental committee with fairly broad terms of reference so that at the end of the day we'll be in the position to think through the various implications and arrive at a decision based on long-term considerations rather than rush prematurely into precipitate and possibly ill-conceived action which might well have unforeseen repercussions.

OK I need to stop channeling Sir Humphrey of the old TV show Yes Minister.

  2. Denial is a very entertaining thing sometimes. However, here it is quite boring and repetitive. No matter what, these people "just don't get it." They won't even discuss that their lousy programming has driven away the listeners. Their state of denial is akin to martyrs at the moment of execution, burning alive while still howling their dogma.

At times, this discussion reminds me of a corporate board trying to figure out how to suck more money out of their customers, while cutting costs and quality of goods and/or services.

They are so much like their "enemies," yet have no understanding of that fact.

    1. It is not within their grasp of reality to figure out that people no longer feel compelled to listen and support when the offerings are way beyond the range of even their minimal interest.

Pounding balls of scam and nonsense into ears impairs hearing.
