What is in the forthcoming Summer breeze?

  1. She needs to leave and take that Null character with her. The station, that is we the listeners, can hold our own election and restore management to its proper purview. That woman is an outrageous intruder who was not invited by the listeners to take over bag and baggage and ruin that place, and I say we are in worse trouble than before the 24/7 GN shift. And I thank her in advance for not writing to me.

    1. Um, are you completely and utterly insane, or just intensely delusional? Radio stations ARE NOT run by their listeners any more than NFL football teams are run by their fans. No business or organization is run that way, and for good reason. If they were, they would fall apart completely, just like WBAI has.

Right now, WBAI sucks. Everything about it sucks, including the on-air talent. If you don't believe me, just ask the thousands of New Yorkers who DON'T LISTEN to the station!

It's remarkable Pacifica didn't sell the NYC license long ago. Who in the world would want to try and save a station in such disarray when it would mean having to deal with people like you?

    2. Many of us are familiar with the animus that fuels the so-called Blue Board—the stalking and general trollery that tends to stifled reasonable dialogue there is what prompted me to start this blog. I hope we can keep it civil and post our thoughts on the WBAI/Pacifica situation without hissing at each other.

I see as fair game the people who created or perpetuate the transformation of WBAI and Pacifica from the platform for independent ideological thought and intelligent cultural enlightenment that founder Lew Hill envisioned to the haven for narcissism and opportunism that it has become.

Have at them and the corrupt, hypocritical system they created, but listen to each other.

    3. Disagreeing with your point of view does not make one a troll.

  2. LSB could not find its way to the door on the barn, never mind restoring anything. Reese is in charge, she is keeping open all options so as to maintain her power and she is not opposing to squeezing the loyal listeners for every dollar as per community radio model. On the open phone segment she sounded like a kindly psychiatrist to a bunch of well meaning listeners, all too willing to jump in and physically bail the water with the bucket to make up for the funds that they, and the station so desperately lack. It is unpleasant how Reimers casually talks about money left to BAI by two listeners (no gratitude, no names) in their wills.

    1. I agree with you re Reese, and Reimers' casual mention of the bequeathed funds reflects the prevailing listeners-be-damned attitude. I also think he "forgot" to mention the amounts left to the station. I have a feeling that there might well be some underhanded manipulation of funds going on—as you probably know, it wouldn't be without precedent.

    2. I wasn't referring to the LSB. I was being snide of course, since barring a re*olution there, that ossified non-working behemoth will be the choosing entity. But I have "weaned" myself from that place over the last 20 years or more, so it mostly won't affect me. There are at least a half-dozen places that play the same material. Loekle I might miss and Bob Fass always had total contempt 4 me so.......in general I won't miss it. I miss the material from the late sixties and early seventies, "Continued Tomorrow", the documentaries, the Free Music Store, the lightness and humor and hipness....all loooong gone. Maybe it would be more humane to just get the cord cut somehow.

    3. WBAI has indeed lost its bite as well as the respect of intelligent listeners. They have reached a point where defrauding the audience is consistent with policy and where most of the air time is filled with banal stuff that can be heard elsewhere. Having myself lost any hope for a resurrection, I believe, as you do, that it's time to cut the cord. Short of a seeing it turn into a religious scam channel, almost anything would be better than hypocritical crap they are dishing out now. Have you heard Kathy Davis lately? :)

  3. "It is simply being considered as an option."

Mmm-hmm. So was the invasion of Iraq.
