WBAI LSB farce...

For the past couple of days, Cerene has popped in and out of Pacifica-related online lists. preparing to disrupt the scheduled on-air discussion. The notifications Shawn Rhodes sent out to all concerned was ignored by Cerene and her JUC group, in keeping with a previously employed tactic.

Of course, they did receive the notification, but, going by their play book, showed up at the 11th hour with a demand to be "included." Besides Cerene, that group comprised two members, Eugene and Pauline,  who have a history of not showing up or remaining silent at LSB meetings. This time, they came prepared to pitch for the MNN "solution." Everyone on the inside knows that JUC game.

They allotted two hours to this meeting, but wasted much time by inexplicably running some of the station's station-break nonsense, the propaganda spots for killer "mumia", a lengthy anti-POTUS montage, a "lecture" (book sale) by "Romona Africa", a character from the Philadelphia bombing-by-police incident, etc. I edited these commercials out. There were less than a handful of callers, one complainant called twice, indicating that there was no rush of callers trying to get through.

Cerene Roberts, an odious fly in Pacifica's soup, dominated with her incessant push to turn WBAI over to MNN, an organization said to be dangling a reward in the form of an administrative position at the reborn WBAI propaganda machine. It is a sordid tale.

  1. Diversity of perspectives as long as its progressive. That really says it all. Even after the Pacifica mission is read to them, they ignore it. Even with the imminent threat to the existence of the foundation, they will not even consider the possibility of changing the programming or hearing different voices. Everything is just fine. Now approve the MNN deal so we can get jobs over there. Congratulations JUC members. Pacifica may go down in flames but you will at least able to say you successfully maintained your hermetically sealed bubble.

  2. In a nutshell: The LSB wants Pacifica to take out a "bridge" loan to pay off the ESRT judgement before the ESRT starts seizing Pacifica assets, and then sell some real estate to pay off the loan. The LSB opposes bankruptcy or a WBAI signal swap. There is disagreement within the LSB should enter into an operating agreement with Manhattan Neighborhood Network.

  3. All in all this was another round of the same old same old. I feel like my head is dizzy from a fever listening to them at this point.

The only interesting thing was the guy who called and said he likes the beg-a-thons because they are more interesting. Either we found a true Remnant or he was being sarcastic. I hope the latter.

  4. Just waiting to hear from Dingeman again: If only Pacifica could give us 10 or 15 million dollars to promote our shows, a full staff of 30 people, and three or four ships, we can turn this ship around and become the flagship station of Pacifica.

    1. That ship is taking on debt. To mix metaphors, Pacifica is in way over it's mast. Throughout the LSB broadcast the members, and listeners repeatedly demonstrated a laser thin focus on small elements a misunderstanding? or not counting the zeros in the ESRT judgement? $1,500,000.00 plus additional interest and penalties with a dollop of unknown pension payments. The costs of running a radio network is beyond the skill set, ability, and knowledge of the national and local boards.
