Meanwhile, at KPFA....

These are excerpted from the archived audio of the KPFA LSB Meeting of December 16, 2017.

The report from the KPFA members of the Pacifica National Board to the KPFA Local Station Board is, unsurprisingly, dire. They note that seizures and/or liens are now imminent across the network. They further note that any hoped for bridge loan is now at least forty-five days away, and that the only option for a WBAI signal swap would reduce its signal coverage to only one-third of Manhattan. The clear consensus is that it’s necessary to prepare to file for Chapter 11. It’s further noted that thus far the Pacifica National Board has refused to authorize such preparation and/or filing.

I’m providing two audio clips. The first, the shorter of the two, contains the presentation to the KPFA LSB, and the longer of the two contains that presentation, plus the following Q&A. The clips are complete as indicated and contain only a very few very slight cosmetic edits which have no effect on content or context.

WKLV then? It seems like K-Love is going to end up on this frequency one way or another thanks to these people's ineptitude, adding the ultimate insult to injury.

    1. I was just thinking that the other day - K-LOVE had been taking over a few college/public radio stations around the country recently so that's what I thought MIGHT happen with BAI

    2. I googled K-Love since I'm not familiar with it.
K-Love (stylized K-LOVE) is a contemporary Christian music radio programming service in the United States operated by the Educational Media Foundation (EMF). As of March 2013, the network's programming is simulcast on over 440 FM stations and translators in 47 US states and 1 US Territory.K-Love has over 12 million listeners weekly online and in cities across the United States on FM radio. It is also the sixth-most online-streamed station in the world.

    3. I was also unfamiliar and Googled and listened to their stream for about five minutes or so. Certainly not my thing, but the contrast with WBAI/Pacifica is certainly striking. Their whole thing appears to be about appealing to people in need of having their spirits lifted, and tying that to their Christian Message.

The contrast with WBAI/Pacifica’s feeding of strife, resentment, divisiveness, paranoia, and hatred couldn’t be more striking.

The Wikipedia entry for these folks indicates not only their success but their emphasis on sound management, sound financing, and sound financial oversight, also a stark contrast with WBAI/Pacifica https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-Love

If they were to replace WBAI/Pacifica it might be remarkably fitting.

Ironic that the religious network relies on sound management/financing while the communist/atheist network is praying for a savior.

  2. With regard to the ESRT, my guess is that they will wait until January, when the California waiting period ends, and then go after Pacifica's assets in every jurisdiction at the same time.

  3. I'm calling a diving or embellishment penalty on KPFA. They have gone to great lengths to get Pacifica to this point and try to break away now they're complaining we have no choice but to go for bankruptcy. The call is diving on KPFA. Cynical attempt to cover their ass by calling for a filing for bankruptcy to protect their bank accounts.

    1. It seems to me that there's more than enough blame to go around in this long-playing clusterfuck otherwise known as the Pacifica Foundation.

In any event, at least according to what information is publicly available there are literally no other viable options and, indeed, there's also a significant-to-high probability that Ch 11 will also prove nonviable.

      Things die.

Pacifica has long been on the list, all of its very own making.

  4. Transmitter update 12/21 PM

Someone has been reading the regs at the FCC website. Please see below. A transmitter update from Tony Ryan. In part. . .

"The Circuit Board has been delivered!

Jake Glanz is working on the installation(as we speak), hopefully we will be UP(few hours) soon if all tests go well.

    NO ETA yet...

I spoke to Berthold yesterday about filing a STA(Special Temporary Authority) FORM.

We have been down(six days) since Saturday(12-16-17) so we still have several
    more days for concern.

"When a broadcast station(WBAI) cannot operate in accordance with its license due to equipment failure, damage to licensed transmission systems, or other causes, the station may request an STA. Section 73.1635 of the rules governs STA operation; other related rule parts are 73.1680 (emergency antennas); 73.1560 (reduced power); 73.62 (AM directional antennas) 73.1740 (reduced hours). "

Included in this email are the FCC GUIDELINES regarding the "SILENT STATION"(downtime) requirements.

    Click Link below.

    https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/special-temporary-authority

Berthold will request the Pacifica attorney to prepare a letter of intent to
the FCC in case this goes past the required filing time..."

Will the FCC give them slack? Time will tell.
