Late Rumblings from WBAI.

WHAT IS GOING ON AT WBAI NOW

On Sep 27, 2017 3:22 PM, Linda Perry wrote:
Bates said he sent me an email last week which i didn't see, but when i explained that the time dated WBAI Evening News which i worked hours on had to go tonight, He said, 'it ain't gonna happen." This infuriated me. How dare he speak to me like that, me who worked so hard on providing details on trumps tax deal released today and NY protests against Scott Pruitt and EPA cuts as well as so many other newscasts with pay hardly forthcoming, so I quit. Bye folks. I love you, but I've had enough.   Linda

On Sep 27, 2017 3:22 PM, Steve Brown inquired:

How come Bill Crosier isn’t being copied on these emails? I have added him to the list. He is the only one who has the power to discipline and/or remove Tony Bates through his authority over GM Berthold Reimers (who seems to be missing in action, again). I haven’t heard anyone say a good word about Tony Bates -- except Berthold, and that is because he has, in effect, handed over to Tony the role of general manager,  leaving Berthold free to gyre and gymble in the wabe, while happily collecting his six-figure GM salary for which Pacifica receives no benefit.   Stephen M Brown

I am not a fan of Linda Perry's newscasts, but...

On Sep 27, 2017 3:22 PM, Mitchel Cohen posted:

Let's remember, please, that Tony Bates has a history of showing very poor judgment, both politically, interpersonally, and in terms of actually assisting programmers with their shows -- and that's just this time around.

He fired Rev. Billy, rather than working with him to strengthen his show, not appreciating Billy's significance in the New York scene.

He publicly libeled me as a CIA agent on a widely read listserve (bastard!), and rejected my own suggestions for shows with abrupt dismissals, same as he's apparently doing here with Linda and Randy. (I'll list them for you, if it makes any difference.)

He's forcing out Linda Perry and Randy Credico -- are you KIDDING ME?!

He's throwing obstacles in the way of some of our best producers. Can't talk about it here, without their OK, but I'll ask them if you think it would be helpful.

A good PD should be working with the producers -- doesn't have to know everything themself, but should know who to turn to in the listening area to help them develop their shows and to integrate them with the other shows. ... and RESPECT the staff and volunteers who work their asses off, mostly for no monetary pay, even when you think they should be doing things differently.

Very sad.

I don't want to make this one individual into the devil -- he's not. His rude behavior and bad decisions, though, are immature on several levels, including politically. It goes to the GM's weakness in being a manager. (The GM does have other strengths, but they're undermined severely by his bad hirings, lack of proper supervision of employees, and lack of just plain ol' vision for the station.)

My two cents, for what it's worth.

  1. Randy Credico doesn't like this development one bit. Of course, he has worked hard to get his air time, but it looks as if he may be losing out to Bates when it comes to Berthold Reimers hugs.

Reimers, for all we know, is tied and gagged behind a dusty pile of premiums.

Yesterday morning, Haskins mumbled something about Linda being absent, but he attributed that to her having more work than he can handle.

Oh, to be a bug on the wall!

  3. Unless I am missing something, I don't know what the email she didn't receive is about or what the actual situation is. All I'm getting is that she is pissed and quit, correct? No loss, since she's an ideological asshole, anyway.

As for Bates, we know he is a total scumbag, probably next in line for GM. Credico has been playing some sort of game for power at the station, but what it is, I don't really know. Does he want Bates job? Does he want to look like a savior with his great non-press conference? I don't know.

As for Crosier, I just don't see him doing anything. In fact, I think he'll be gone in the near future.

Brown's comments are interesting, considering he loved Reimers in the past.

    1. Briefly, Linda spent a lot of time on a report. Something else was aired in its place, orders of Bates, who appears to be in command now. Reimers is invisible, but continues collecting his paycheck, Bill Crosier is staying out of this, Credico is having hissyfits, Linda resigned, Haskins is making up stories as his imaginary “community” falls apart, the fat lady is chooking on her lozenges, Mimii may soon turn white again, another fund raiser.is about a week away, the ESB people are prepping Kong, etc., etc., etc.

    2. And they still don't have a production company making a reality show out of this shit?

By the way, how is this Perry vs Bates situation any of Credico's business? Doesn't he have politicians to talk to in order to save WBAI? Do you realize Credico is actually funnier in his WBAI failings then he ever is as a "comedian"?

I watched King Kong vs Godzilla the other day.

I bet I could get more listeners doing reviews of Asian instant noodles than WBAI can get with their crap.

  4. The beat goes on....Tony Bates is a roughneck. Hopefully the station is in its last days. But it should be know that neither Berthold nor Tony are progressives. They are black racists - even other black people know this. But then again so was Samori, Robert Knight, Bernard White and Valerie Van Isler - professional black bigots - fuck all of them deep!

  5. Chris,
Several months ago Steve Brown published a mini curriculum vitae. Note: Brown omitted his porn connections. But Brown boasted that he managed Credico's campaigns and that he helped establish PRN.

Brown also omitted the name of the individual, who edits his longer pronouncements.

More recently Brown denounced the harsh prison sentence given to Anthony Weiner.

Although not a member of the WBAI LSB, Brown controls this august body. Brown was responsible for the hiring of Katz and of Reimers, two pitiful individuals.

    Thank you.

  6. I just looked at WBAI's website and see that they haven't even been able to cut one day of begging. Maybe they need to offer a zombies enslaved on the Moon conspiracy DVD or something?

Anyway, their big ass, world shaking petition stands at 786 signatures.

You really have to laugh at something like this. 99.5FM and 50,000 watts and they still can't get listeners! I bet a polka station could do better. A 24/7 comedy station would blow WBAI away- Oh, wait. we do have a 24/7 comedy station on 99.5FM.

And everyone at Pacifica and WBAI refuses to discuss firing Reimers.

    1. Reality is simply too uncomfortable for them to recognize it and the programming is growing worse.

Did you take a look at the WBAI site's schedule? It has always been useless, but now the print is so small and the colors are the same density, so it is literally unreadable. There is barely a mention of Reimers—the monthly newsletter has died on the vine, and even a cursory look at the site reflects a disinterest in the station except as a means by which these self-serving dilettantes can feed their imagined importance.

Why should anyone donate money to pay these swindlers a salary? Why, at this point, should anyone care if WBAI's death is brought to full term?

Why should some of these criminals not be made to pay for their crimes? Apropos criminals, they are running promotion by Bernard White, whose latest scam seems to be a posthumous tribute to Elombe Brath—the vandals stick together, thick as thieves, as it were. Haskins, perhaps the most pathetic of these fools, proudly identified White this morning when the promotion ran.

Berthold Reimers should never have been hired, nor should the mindless who brought him aboard. WBAI's story is a tale of deception, avarice, shallowness and criminality. A ship of fools that is about to sink.

    2. "Oh, wait. we do have a 24/7 comedy station on 99.5FM." could have come straight from Gay Null's mouth. The abyss staring back?

  7. This particular little ship has been foundering for a fuck of a long time.

Ralph Engelman’s eagerly accommodating and facilitating Percy Sutton’s and his people’s influence coming to dominate, then control, the local station board, eagerly and ardently desirous of folding WBAI in to Sutton’s Inner City Broadcasting mini-empire, first placing Anna Kosof as general manager with Pablo Guzman as program director, accompanied by notice to staff that they were to be replaced by Sutton’s preferences, followed by the then forced sale of the station at 359 E 62nd Street via the court ruling of Percy Sutton’s brother, Oliver, with multiple unaddressed questions as to the cash flows following from the sale and mortgage restructuring, then followed by the installation of Samori Marksman as Maximum Revolutionary in Chief, with accompanying further and ever-growing contempt for and alienation of WBAI’s existing audience base as hopelessly bourgeois and also, well, you know, hopelessly Jewish in many cases… all this firmly established the pattern of the systemic exploitation of a culturally and financially valuable asset for purposes overwhelmingly personal and overwhelmingly in stark opposition with the original foundational goals.

Is it any surprise that this led to bad places?

It has, however, taken a very long time for the rot to prove sufficient to consume and destroy the fundamental value and values of what had been so generously gifted long, long, long ago.

So they finally slipped Bernard White back in.
He probably figures he's positioning himself to move up if Reimers is canned.
Bates as GM, White back as PD? Could happen!

The Titanic's bow is under water and Mitch Cohen is complaining the service in the dining salon is too slow.
Wasn't Bates the guy who was sent to D.C. after being accused of harassing (perhaps even assaulting) women at the station? Does that fall under "rude" or "immature"?
I'd like to see the list of Reimers' "other strengths".

  10. Chris,

It was Berthold Reimers, who fired Tony Bates. Bates then went to DC.

The late Ibrahi Gonzales (? for Gonzales) informed Reimers- at least according to Ibrahim.

Jim Dingeman defended Bates and said that Bates was fired because of racism. But I was told that a female had complained to Berthold.

Bates was and always will be a bum.

As for Mitchel Cohen, he knows absolutely nothing about business. Cohen provided me with a list of his accomplishments- including the Park Slope Co-op. I mentioned that I had helped put the American Stock Exchange out of business and had successfully intervened to prevent the merger of the NYSE and the Deutsche Borse. Of course I had assistance- several members of the Amex and NYSE provided me with information.

Mitchel Cohen told me that he did not like that I had been wired by the FBI for an investigation into narcotics smuggling and money laundering at the Amex. Cohen is a joke- and unfortunately so are the individuals, who support Cohen.

  12. The petition only has 827 signers as of 2:30 PM on Saturday, September 30. It does not look like they will get to 1,000 before the ESRT motion is argued on October 4. That is an indication of how little support WBAI has.

So, I believe even the 827 figure is as delusional as the accounting stories Reimers invents.

I guess you are referring to a tribute of sorts to the MOVE people who messed up a nice Philadelphia neighborhood back in the Eighties and were dealt with outrageously by Rizzo, who firebombed their house(s) and—inadvertently, one supposes—razed the entire block, including homes of decent residents. It was truly outrageous and, certainly, a major instance of over-reaction by the so-called city of brotherly love.

This will give you details of the Apollo event:
      https://www.apollotheater.org/event/apollo-uptown-hall-movement-required/

I hadn't heard that it was "successful", but the WBAI scam artists tend to label everything to reflect favorably on themselves. The tickets were free, but merchandise (DVDs, etc.) was being hawked, As far as I know, this was not a fundraiser for WBAI, but it had the station written all over it, from being MC'd by "WBAI's Gary Byrd" to the music being performed by WBAI's awful duo, "The Illustrious Blacks". I wonder if the brought their own applause recordings with them. :)

Apropos creativity, the "Aware" woman's hour-long pitch for instant authorship preceded Haskins. I was listening, so I jumped out of bed and spent the next six hours writing a major five-volume work of Gothic fiction. Btw, to be fair, most of Noory's shows are drivel, but he does pull out a good guest every week or so.
