Jim Freund vs The Closet...

From the mind of 'indigo pirate':
Early in the course of Jim Freund’s most recent Hour of the Wolf, he comments on the state of WBAI’s broadcast closet – only to be promptly attacked and engulfed by an apparently time-shifted Closet…

Perhaps, given the revival of enthusiasm for analog, a time-shifted vintage master control console might prove helpful…

The other day, I wondered aloud what had become of WBAI's old equipment, such as the reel-to-reel tape machines, turntables... and consoles. Will we find these essential items noted in the station's financial records, collecting dust in somebody's basement, or pled on a junk heap? Our friend, 'indigopirate', must have been listening.

    3. The link still works for me and, it seems, others who have used it. Yours is the only report of a problem, so it may well be that your software has an incompatibility. Do other links here work for you?

  2. Maybe the answer is in all the evidence Gary Null has in that new lawsuit he filed against WBAI..? Yeah...

    1. Null just Peppered the assassination of MLK and revealed that he was still alive when brought to the hospital. Almost as an aside, Null added that he is an "award-winning" investigator who has previously made over 300 shocking revelations.

    1. Guess you missed it. At the end of last year, Null was raging how he was most definitely going to sue WBAI in 10 days time. Well, the deadline was about the 10th of January, and no lawsuit was filed. Yet another Null threat that came and went.

I joke around about the lawsuit that, yet again, hasn't happened because I am so sick and tired of Null and his bullshit threats and claims. Null is the organic boy that cried wolf too many times.

    2. One might say that Null does not wear his lawsuits well.

    3. One thing Null wears well is egg on his face. I'd say he should eat crow, but he's a vegan.

    4. Are you saying that the yolk is on him? :)

    5. HAHA! No, I think the yolk is on anyone who believes him, even to a small extent. Why he goes on his little tirades, I don't know. What I do know is from now on we need to just laugh at any future tirades. Is there a method to his madness, or just a madness?

    6. He is given to gross exaggeration, that's for sure. When people routinely and needlessly embellish like that, I think they suffer some kind of insecurity and are trying to make up for it. I have known a couple who had this problem. One was John Hammond, a very successful record producer who was born into great wealth (his mother was a Vanderbilt, his father owned railroads. Had he simply taken credit for a fraction of his real accomplishments, it would have been extremely impressive, but he made things up. He also never corrected anyone giving him false credit.

  4. In the lower right hand of the photo of the old revered RCA board up there is a pack of Marlborough smokes. I remember before the smoking regs. came in 90+% of the staff were chain smokers.

Back at the 505 8th Ave. studios the windows were actually dark brown at the tops from years of smoking. The foam wind screens on all the mics had brown/black melt spots all over them from guests, and hosts smoking into them.

The place smelled like an ash tray.

I even recall some guests leaving during shows because of the thick layers of smoke in the studio. This from other guests, and the host puffing away in an enclosed small space. This was thought funny.

    Times have indeed changed.

    1. At 30 East 39th, neither Master Control nor our studio had a window. They were all up front, facing the street. I don't recall this ever posing a problem. I was smoking a pack a day, but I gave it up when we landed on the moon. I was home, sick in bed and watching TV... waiting for the moon rocks to be shown. There was quite a day, so they kept the originally scheduled program on... int was about the dangers of smoking... they showed VERY black lungs... by the time those rocks finally came on, I was a non-smoker... still am.

    2. When I was at 505 8th Ave. doing The Light Show with Fred, I was told the only place you were allowed to smoke was the extra room, which was the one on the left down the hall after you passed the front office area.
