The current WBAI sadly demonstrates that hate, like ignorance and bigotry, is omni-directional.
This morning, a hate-filled Haskins teamed up with Gloria J. Brown Marshall for a two-hour reading of names, exploiting the 1,136 U.S. victims of fatal gun shots. It was a shameless exhibition of opportunism that may very well become another undelivered "thank you gift" as the scam continues.
While these two were milking tragedy for nefarious purposes, President Obama gave a live announcement of his work to change the gun laws purchased from a Republican Congress by the NRA. A live feed to Mr. Obama's speech would have been the prudent thing to broadcast, but not for the station that cannot handle unvarnished truth.
It is one thing to honor the 9/11 victims in the presence of their relatives and loved ones, quite another to use names of the deceased for hypocritical dramatic effect.
The entire WBAI recital is here, but I have speeded it up to lessen the pain of hearing yet another WBAI exercise in bad taste.
Am I being too cynical? Let's hear what you think.

They are, indeed, burying themselves and the station. Not much going on in their little heads, made smaller still by oversized egos. Here, according to The Guardian, is the race/ethnic breakdown of victims per million:
ReplyDelete2.92 White
7.15 Black
3.48 Hispanic/Latino
1.34 Asian/Pacific Islander
3.4 Native American
I guess you didn't hear the very end—I think it will become more appropriate as Haskins further capitalizes on these killings.
You did the right thing in speeding it up, but you should not have lowered the register so as to make it sound like "Alvin and the Chipmunks".

I taught briefly at John Jay College, where Gloria Brown-Marshall teaches. I never heard of, or about her, while I was there--and not until I heard her on WBAI a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat does that tell you about her--and her misguided perception of herself?
To me, it confirms the impression I formed after hearing her program.
DeleteBlanche Wiesen Cook teaches at John Jay and although she is a lesbian leftist feminist, she is the only one on WBAI ever with superior knowledge.
DeleteAre you saying that leftist lesbian feminists generally lack superior knowledge?
DeleteI hope it's just unfortunate wording on your part.
No. I am generally turned off by someone of her political persuasion, but her encyclopedic knowledge and ease at public speaking makes her very listenable.
DeleteMenachem--I have met her, and she is an intelligent and formidable woman. Most of the producer/hosts on the current WBAI aren't fit to bring her coffee.
DeleteI thought you were exaggerating. I kept skipping ahead but it was still a recital of names.
ReplyDeleteWas that really two hours? I'm not a journalist but if I had two hours on air, I would start
with Obama's address maybe add some background info then get some responses of local and national leaders of both major parties and then open up the phone lines/twitter etc. It could have been a good opportunity to get people to think. Reciting names without context is not just misleading but chases away everyone else.
BTW according to the page at jjay.cuny.edu, Gloria J. Browne-Marshall is an Associate Professor of Constitutional Law at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY). She also teaches classes in Race and the Law, Evidence, and Gender and Justice. She a former civil rights attorney who litigated cases for Southern Poverty Law Center in Alabama, Community Legal Services in Philadelphia, and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Inc.. Professor Browne-Marshall is a member of the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. She addresses audiences nationally. Gloria J. Browne-Marshall has spoken on issues of race and the Constitution in Ghana, Rwanda, England, Wales, Canada, and before the United Nations in Geneva.
I wonder what happened to her?
DeleteHave you seen Berthold Reimers' resumé? :)
He is on LinkedIn if you want to check (Director of SSP & Medicaid Dual Products R&A - Government Assisted Programs at EmblemHealth, Dir. Financial Reporting &...

I don't know him but I listened to a PNB finance meeting where the GM was talking about the budget and he seemed unprepared for the meeting and not engaged like the whole thing was a chore. You can hear him typing away while everyone is waiting for an answer to a question. I can't generalize too much from one meeting but it was a generally sympathetic group giving him every chance and he just didn't seem to inspire much confidence. Even his own LSB treasurer (RPM) was confused by his projections. For some reason, he doesn't use Pacifica's accounting software and insists on using QuickBooks. That of course would be verboten in the real world.
Maybe I'll put in for development director or facility director. Lord knows he could use the help.
Also on Likedin is his WBAI job description--read it and laugh. I believe it's in his own words.
DeleteFrom what I've heard from her, I never would have guessed that Profesor Brown-Marshall had such a resume. To me, she sounds like Margaret Prescod on a low dose of Xanax.
DeleteYes, and some Paela Brown thrown in.
DeleteI am confident that all of Berthold's degrees and positions are legitimate. It is marvelous what affirmative action will do for an unqualified imbecile.
DeleteKGT
That makes it all the worse, because he apparently did not learn much.
DeleteAny news on the Null vs. WBAI lawsuit? I believe the ten day ultimatum is up. Yeah...
ReplyDeleteSDL
With breaths baited, we are on standby. :)
DeleteAnyone catch the numerologist on "Education at the Crossroads" last night? I am preparing an audio clip post.
Maybe Null is too busy curing AIDS repeatedly to sue. Yeah, that's the excuse...
DeleteNo, I don't partake in numerology, except when working or paying my bills. I prefer astrology as my choice of hocus pocus. It's good for picking up women, so it serves a purpose.
SDL
That's a thought.... Null is out to break the Guinness record for curing AIDS.
DeleteForgetting that it amounts to mission impossible, I thought Starman Z might have taught them a lesson.
Well, all I can say is that WBAI has a 3rd rate numerologist as GM, considering how he makes magic out of numbers...
DeleteSDL
He's more of a fumbling juggler, isn't he?
Delete"Null is out to break the Guinness record for curing AIDS".
ReplyDeletelol- If he cured ONE case, then he has broken the Guinness World's Record.
KGT
That he hasn't appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records shows that the Guinness people are in on the conspiracy to suppress his repeatedly curing people of AIDS. Even the patients he's cured repeatedly are in on the conspiracy, since none of them come out and back Null's claims.
DeleteSDL
It sure looks like a conspiracy against Null. I recall hearing that they gave someone else the credit for disproving the flat-earth theory, and how about organic weeds? Think about it.
DeleteEven Null is conspiring against himself in suppressing any talk of the lawsuit he filed against WBAI the other day.
DeleteBut I must let the show go on...
SDL
I wonder if he paid hush money to the PNB majority? Could it be that he sent Cerene west to push some people around? :)
DeleteWouldn't Cerene unseat people?
DeleteSDL
You're thinking, SDL!
DeleteOf course she would! How forgetful of me....
