When budgets won't budge

As Pacificans are transfixed by the wonders of their electoral processes, allocating their ever-diminishing resources to elections rather than to the tedium of programming, budgeting, personnel, or structural reform, we have the silence which speaks volumes from the Pacifica National Board Finance Committee Meeting of 19 July 2016.

  1. Chris, here you are wrong. Most of the evil on the PNB is running or termed out. If we don't have elections they will remain on the board. The whole hope is to bring in some people who aren't a part of the plan to bring down the network to save the Californian stations.

  2. You should be addressing 'indigopirate'. BTW, why are you only talking about the California stations?

  3. Babbling Bob: "...it went to black-" Talk about the perfect words leading into a technical fuck up...

    1. Yes, WBAI went to black quite some time ago, but babbling Bob probably didn't notice.

It just went to black for the umpteenth time. I love these stories without end. I wish Bob would go to black.... and stay there. Max should bring up one of his 1940s transcriptions, that would make all three of us much happier, not to mention Max himself.

They really need to replace Bob with something listenable.

      Bad news.... they're fixing it!

    2. Don't count your chickens until they're hatched, especially with WBAI. What you really have to wonder is if Babbling knows he's off the air on his most important station, which he doesn't even pitch for.

    3. Perhaps he IS on the air, somewhere in the sticks, :)

    4. Does he have his own syndicated network? If yes, how much is Pacifica paying him?

      Delete
    5. No, Bob does not have his own syndicated network, WBAI just allows him to feed a handful of stations in the sticks. I don't think they pay anything, nor o there appear to be any listeners... Radio Unlistenable never receives any calls from these areas—nor, for that matter his very own.... about 3 regulars who are holding on to the past. Bob's show, of course, bears little or no resemblance to the one he did for the flower children.

This morning, he received one call—it was from someone who seemed to be looking for a good place to get weed. The show is, basically, the remnant of a relic.

    6. I notice a couple of those few regular callers don't even actually listen to his show. They just know what time he is on and call in like they're calling a friend rather than understanding he's doing a radio show. I guess their brains are so fried on pot they can't comprehend that anymore.

    7. Guess I had been grabbed by Morpheus when the second call came in. You're right about the discrepancy between the calls and whatever Bob is mumbling at the moment. Remember, his mumbles, like the snatches of music he plays have about them a randomness that should not be confused with ad lobs or "free form".

    1. This morning, the very "rare" Robeson set was back to the magic 15 copies—never mind that Prescod's pitch somehow always duplicates the very circumstances of the previous run.

      Scam.

  6. Speaking of silence, R. Paul says Reimers is not drafting a budget and no one has anything to say about it?

  7. Well, maybe they decided, somewhat sensibly, that there's no sense in making budgets when your cash flow is negative, and you can't come up with any way to reverse it.

  8. Chris,

I am no friend of Berthold Reimers; I have been criticizing Reimers' accounting fraud for years. But when I was reporting accounting fraud, Mitchel Cohen, R Paul Martin, Steve Brown, Alex Steinberg, Carolyn Birden, etc. were praising Reimers.

At the very outset Reimers violated Not For Profit Law by hiring Andrea Katz- in violation of the Equal Opportunity Act. Everybody in Steve Brown's Group defended the illegal hire of Andrea Katz. Incidentally in case you are not aware, Andrea Katz is infamously known for having a mental meltdown on Project Runway.

And once again there was only praise for the incompetency of Andrea Katz- by the members of the Steve Brown Choir, especially and including Mitchel Cohen.

In January 2011 I began to write to Ross Wisdom, Pacifica's auditors, that I believed that the accounting fraud at WBAI was probably a deliberate attempt to force WBAI (and Pacifica) into insolvency.

R Paul Martin mocked me whenever I mentioned accounting irregularities. Martin is just as incompetent as Reimers and Katz.

    Thank you. Ed Manfredonia

    1. Been there, felt that. My own criticism of Berthold Reimers' incompetency, lies and highly questionable behavior has been mocked by his apologists (some of whom you name) for a few years. Same applies to my early warnings regarding the mission redirect by a racist, ignorant group of opportunists whose common goal is to morph WBAI into a black station lowered to their own level of mindlessness.

The infestation has, I'm afraid, eliminated all hope of 99.5 ever again becoming the "breath of fresh air" my friend, Lou Schweitzer, used to be so proud of.

Equating African ancestry with low intelligence, as these uninformed, agenda-driven squatters do through their morally deficient programs and schemes is doing us all a disservice. Reimers, some of his predecessors and the current corrupt Pacifica "leadership" bear much of the blame.

  9. R. Paul Martin is winging mightily on the blueboard that the ‘PNB majority is purposely trying to sink Pacifica’.

As if, having abandoned foundational purpose and principles long, long, long ago, any effort were necessary.

Now, of course, even with clear evidence of serious financial impropriety, R. Paul has never sought out the press or relevant authorities…

Yet, of course, absolute failure is the Fault of Others.

    Of course.

    1. People are finally discouvering that R. Paul Martin is full of shit?? He is a fraud! His so-called union was a fraud!! He NEVER called the media or authorities - he just wanted to keep his perverted show. He is part of management and always has been. This is why NOTHING will change at WBAI!!

  10. Just when you think that WBAI can't get any weirder, it surprises you. It is now about 9:00 PM on Friday, and Kathy Bates is on the air. If I understand what she and her guests are saying, in spite of their inability to speak clearly, it seems that they are claiming that Black people did not come to the Americas from Africa, but were here all along, and are indigenous. I wonder Ghosthorse and Kane would say about that.

    1. Kane and the horse are not going to be pleased by that ridiculous fable, which I also am listening to.

I, being first-generation Nordic, am waiting for these fools to tell us that the Vikings (my ancestors) were indigenous blacks. I grew up on black literature... we called them "Sagas". Kathy ("Bates", I like that) is dense beyond belief—just in the past year, or so, I have seen her become a profound philosopher—the crap that envelops WBAI has taken over her little brain cavity.

The sooner these idiots have to go back to street corner tables, the better black children will be—look what lies and ignorance did to German youth for close to a decade. Most of them recovered.

One almost has to feel sorry for people who are as gullible and bereft of integrity as Kathy, Haskins, Daniels, et al.

Now, about the revelation that Snow White was black :)

    2. Wow! Kathy Bates (I like that!) actually has a unique ability: She can make Kane and Ghosthorse seem interesting, even scholarly! That is a real feat, I must say!

As you can tell from my surname, the majority of my ancestry is Italian, though from different parts of the country. Northern Italians racists say that south of Rome, it's not Europe, it's Africa. Hmm...Maybe they should talk to Kathy Bates, Margaret Prescod, et al. That could be very, very interesting--and entertaining, if unintentionally.

  11. Reimers is also going to bring back null money—literally—from the way this fun raising attempt is going. An out of step reprise of the worst of the worst.

Surely, Tony Bates is standing by with a vial of the Double Helix.

  12. Notice when the WBAItes push this alternate history from planet Fantasyland that they NEVER have a real archaeologist on, just like they never have real medical doctors on when they have their quackery?

I've said before that WBAI is a cult, and every beg-a-thon sells junk that is more and more in line with the sort of irrational nonsense cults inculcate their followers with.

Didn't know about Andrea Katz and Project Runway.
Shows she truly fits in Pacifica - she gets an amazing opportunity but is too lazy and untalented to take advantage of it and after some whining runs away.

    1. Thanks for that link, JAL. It offers a minute but important detail to anyone who might still be wondering what is wrong with WBAI's mismanagement. Andrea clearly has personal problems for which she should be given help, but hiring her to handle the station's public relations points to a systemic Pacifica problem that now is proving to be fatal in a tangible way as well as in spirit.

  15. This begs two questions. What were her credentials for being hired for the salaried job at WBAI, and why won't she do us all a favor and walk away from the station?
