Interim Exec Dir. John Proffitt's presentation.

Share PNB 2015 07 09 John Proffitt Presentation

The outlook is not what Mitchel Cohen and Berthold Reimers see through those rose-colored glasses, but Mr. Proffitt appears to have his feet on the ground.

By all calculations, as it were, Berhold Reimers ought to prepare for departure.

  1. Proffitt's observations and comments were simply clear, direct and to the point. I dare say, from what I've heard of him recently, that I am actually coming to respect him. As I have said lately, he is a radio person. He may be a politico, too, for all I know, but I see him acting as a radio management person should, so far. Another good thing is that he specifically understands finances and non-commercial radio.

We'll see what happens as he feeds the children their medecine.

    1. Perhaps Bill Cosby has some knock-out pills left over. Knock 'em out and toss 'em out!

  2. Those aren't strong enough. What's needed is some of that Guyana produced Kool Aid from the late 1970s.

  3. I work in retail, and whenever we are scheduled to get a visitor from corporate, we get nervous. We do our jobs right. There's usually nothing to worry about. I can't imagine how the people at WBAI feel awaiting Mr. Proffitt's visit. They seemingly do nothing right. A little schadenfreude on my part.

  4. Serious "difficulty in getting reconciliations and original invoices and records" is sufficient cause for firing and replacing whoever is in charge of finances and accounting (in this case the incredible brain trust of "numbers guy" Berthold Reimers and fashion-designer-cum-deputy-director Andrea Katz). It's unclear if BR et al are ignorant of how fatal this problem is, or if they are stalling to drag out some sort of fraud/scheme a little bit longer. Small, dysfunctional nonprofits with chaotic but substantial cash flows are serious temptations for anybody inclined to fraud/larceny. Wbai is still (somehow, incredibly) a multi million dollar nonprofit. A multi million dollar nonprofit without any verifiable accounting.

I'm encouraged by Profitt's competent, professional attitude so far.

Secondarily, please consider not posting entries as images. It's very very hard to read on mobile devices. Is there a reason you can't post the text as regular text? Blogspot would automatically optimize text for mobile phones...

    1. Thank you for your comment, mouse. How right you are when you point out the temptation to self-serve that is inherent in a financial set-up such as WBAI's current "system." I appreciate your advice re text as images. I am aware of the fact that this causes problems on smaller devices, so I have kept it to a minimum, mostly creating images to highlight quotes that are also posted in text form.

I will henceforth be more aware and accommodating.
