The transfiguration of Mimi Rosenberg

As WBAI is made blacker, browner and, sadly, dumber, the handwriting on the wall is open to interpretation. The station's delusional dabblers see a message of hope: the new, angry ersatz ebony WBAI is rising from honkey's ashes with reams of I.O.U.s. What the dedicated realists read is more of an admonishment: the days are numbered, the WBAI under cork angle isn't working.

The poor Mumiaistas just keep wading deeper and deeper into the cesspool of lies created by their ignorance. The hypocrisy factor is up as they contradict themselves (a liar must have a good memory) and somehow believe that the station's listeners haven't caught on.

How many times have they told you that WBAI is the area's only totally independent station? They love to use that as a selling point, but is it true? They will point to corporate underwriting—as heard on WNYC and PBS—and tell you that it is a demonic free speech killer. News and documentaries aired by those stations are tainted to comply with the wishes and needs of the Evil Empire known as USA.

Yet, they now tell us that "Eyes on the Prize" is the most extraordinary series ever produced, and they want you to buy a copy of this $23 Amazon item for a mere $150. No one at WBAI is pushing this product harder than Mimi Rosenberg, whose ethnic conversion seems almost complete. Listen to this brief, unedited excerpt from last Wednesday's "Morning Show" (the dead air and commercial credits are real). Her Kleenex worthy theatrics haven't quite reached the level exhibited by the late Robert Knight, but it's getting there.

Here is Mimi selling listeners on Reparations... or is she using the Repscam© to sell them on WBAI?

Have you noticed how these WBAI bozos constantly grab the coattails of whatever is in the news? The "reparations" thing is typical, so is "WBAI Matters," and when I hear them bandy about the names of recent police victims, I see that thin line between news and exploitation dissipate.

  2. There is arguably no population grouping on the planet without a valid claim to horrific abuse, suffering, exploitation, and the like if one simply looks back a bit in time.

I fail to see how competing claims of suffering, disadvantage, and spurious claims of virtue due to such suffering and disadvantage are in way helpful, or useful, to anyone – those making such claims perhaps least of all.

Yet they seem central to contemporary American culture.

Which, in turn, I suppose, tells us something about contemporary American culture.

    1. The Guinness Book of Suffering. I recall one of Hermione Baddeley's comedy routines had two retireees topping each other with descriptions of their medical problems. "The" holocaust always sounded like a brag to me.

The new "black" WBAI will acknowledge the suffering of Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli government, but I don't think they would if Palestinians were Caucasian. WBAI is also loath to give any credit to Jewish people who supported or were a part of the Civil Rights movement. Reminds me of an Esso map of the Caribbean used to have—Cuba was missing!

    2. @‘indigopirate’: Contemporary American culture is an ironic term to use, really. I like to call it something like international corporate crass consumerism culture. Yes, it was born in the USA and its corporations, but, I believe, has sort of evolved into an independent and international "culture" of selling things not meant to last to the masses. I think Americans have less culture than ever before. Just my view.

@ Chris: I always thought that "The Holocaust" was deprecating to all others who have suffered genocides in history. There is this mentality of a scoring system for genocides, and some rate higher than others. Americans don't like to look in their own back yard, but we had, and continue to have, a major historical genocide going on here against Native Americans, the poorest, most abused people in the history of this nation. For all the reparations bigotry these scam artists spew, the fact is that this country never even built public housing ghettos for the Native Americans, nor extended other programs that black people were afforded.

Think about this. What did Al Jolson really symbolize? White people wanting what they percieved as black entertainment, without the black people. Any different than Pat Boone or Elvis Presley doing black songs, so white folks didn't have to look at blacks? To me, Boone and Presley are worse, because now they have stopped even showing any recognition of the, at least imagined, origins of the music.

Anyway, right now the cause celebre genocide is the WWI one against the Armenians, at least in the European press. In Asia, but never heard here, is the never ending claims by the Chinese against the Japanese. In truth, the Chinese lost more people than anyone in WWII. The Japanese still consider their actions during WWII heroic. Ever see any Japanese made WWII movies from major studios like Toho? I have and found them very eye opening. The genocide Olympics just goes on and on, carrying hate to yet another new generation each time.

WBAI pays attention to the Palestinians? That seemed to fade out months ago from the airwaves, except, maybe, from The $2,000 Woman's show.

Finally, I snapped on WBAI and heard the hip hop guys giving the url for their chat room. Out of curiosity, I went in. What did I find? Six silent people not chatting a word. Well, six people are more than five Fasscists, I guess.

    3. The station appears to back the Palestinians, but you are probably right about that having become a back shelf thing. More likely, they seem to support the Palestinians when they go after Israel. These are very confused puppies who slither with the flow and love to hate. What a shame that they managed to ride their wrecking ball into WBAI.

    1. This is how my Mac translated that!

Funny, but not as funny as this Beijing hotel brochure translated from Mandarin:

      "Getting There:
Our representative will make you wait at the airport. The bus to the hotel runs along the lake shore. Soon you will feel pleasure in passing water. You will know that you are getting near the hotel, because you will go round the bend. The manager will await you in the entrance hall. He always tries to have intercourse with all new guests.

      The Hotel:
This is a family hotel, so children are very welcome. We of course are always pleased to accept adultery. Highly skilled nurses are available in the evenings to put down your children. Guests are invited to conjugate in the bar and expose themselves to others. But please note that ladies are not allowed to have babies in the bar. We organize social games, so no guest is ever left alone to play with them self.

      The Restaurant:
Our menus have been carefully chosen to be ordinary and unexciting. At dinner, our quartet will circulate from table to table, and fiddle with you.

      Your Room:
Every room has excellent facilities for your private parts. In winter, every room is on heat. Each room has a balcony offering views of outstanding obscenity. You will not be disturbed by traffic noise, since the road between the hotel and the lake is used only by pederasts.

      Bed:
Your bed has been made in accordance with local tradition. If you have any other ideas please ring for the chambermaid. Please take advantage of her. She will be very pleased to squash your shirts, blouses and underwear. If asked, she will also squeeze your trousers.

      Above All:
When you leave us at the end of your holiday, you will have no hope. You will struggle to forget it."

These bozos are unbelievably. Did you catch R. Paul Martin's 45-minute gall blather yesterday morning? I'm not kidding, he went on for three quarters of his hour program describing in disgusting detail his recent operation!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yeah, I spun by about 10 minutes into his show, or is that biweekly report about himself? I have no problem listening to a report on a medical condition, operation, etc. in general terms, but this just seemed more of the same all about himself stuff. His show has basically always been autobiographical like that, even when I was a kid and he first popped up on the air. I just never cared for him.

You see, in the old days, Howard Stern would do the same thing, but he understood how to make fun of himself and make himself the butt of the joke. Stern's stories were props for laughs. Martin just shouts out his experiences without that same sense of humor.

However, I do have to admit that I have wondered what kind of shits Gary Null takes. Must be weird. I once went out with a hardcare vegan girl who, about 20 minutes into our conversation, started telling me about how she takes "little bunny shits." Great topic while awaiting your food. Needless to say that I got her back to her place and told her I had to go home to be up early for work. I never went out with her again.

Even in a college that swarms with frauds, has-beens and never-weres, Daniels stood out. A student body that is over 70 percent black knows what a fraud--and bully--he is.

Now let's see if Reimers tells the customers how much money they paid, and how he is spending it. Last I heard, the lease for Atlantic Avenue. Is still unsigned and the rent is still in arrears. As for the studio, a recent Mitchel lie is that a real one is being built, but there is no noise to indicate that and it would have been mentioned by people in the closet, if it were so. When r. Paul Martin did his gall blather, one could hear the rain hit the roof... So much for soundproofing.

I really hope this is a permanent programming decision. If so, I will have to email Murillo and thank him for what I consider a great move. I think DN at this time is good for a lot of people who can't catch the morning broadcast, and/or is great accompaniment when sitting down for dinner.

    4. DN isn't an audience participation show, so I don't think live or not matters, really. Personally, I would like to see it keep its morning slot and be rebroadcast at 6:00PM. I think each slot will have a lot of different listeners.

If Forlano really is gone, let's hope she's holding the door for Daulton to follow her. If both are gone, that would really be a hell of a put down for Reimers. The funny thing is I doubt anyone will notice they are gone.

  17. It has been over a year since Robert Knight died and it must be said - he used to go around the station threatening people who dared criticize the late Samori Marksman. I do not wish death on anyone, but many people are glad he is no longer @ the station. He was a miserable POS! So was Samori for that matter - Samori created the current mess the station is in, with his peculiar "Worldview".

    4. Yes, the course had been set, but Marksman apparently had the determination to stay on it and did so more forcefully and openmindedly. Am I wrong about that? Did Marksman not exhibit a programming flexibility that kept the station more listenable?

This is based purely on what I have gathered second hand as I wasn't tuned in during his regime.

    5. Samori brought in Uterus Lied because he felt she could bring to WBAI what she brought to The City Sun. He was right on that.

      KGT

      Delete
    6. Yes, Chris, one could put it that way. Samori was a serious Marxist ideologue product of his age (remember all the revolutions of 1979) pushing the world revolution that never came, but he had a little more brains and radio acumen, and/or, maybe, also a lack of guts to turn WBAI 100% Marxist all the time. I don't know for sure, but some of the programming diversity remained. Maybe he just knew what kept a diverse audience? I despise him, but many of those after him are/were far worse.

One thing is that WBAI has been so dumbed down these days. Samori pushed an ideology, but didn't dumb down the station like it is now. Under Samori, you heard shows about the world news/current events, but they were, of course, peppered with a Marxist bent. Now you wouldn't know what is happening in the world if you listened 24/7.

Let me put it this way. Under Samori, I disagreed with people and their opinions/views. However, I never called the station dumb, racist, a rip-off, nor essentially stopped listening back then. Under Samori I learned things about the world, even if I disagreed and felt the dominant ideology was lopsided. Now? Well, I learned how NOT to do radio and... I'm thinking, I'm thinking...

      SDL

      Delete
    7. Thank you, SDL, that is in line with the impression I had formed. I gather that Marksman's death created a vacuum into which these dummies were sucked.

WBAI should never be a station that has everybody nodding in agreement, but it no longer attracts independent thinkers, so we have it preaching to an ever diminishing chorus.

We will never know if Marksman might eventually have chopped away at the diversification. That's how it usually goes, but he was no dummy, so chances are that he would have foreseen the sorry result that is today's WBAI.

      Delete
  18. Marksman referred to the date when he was forced to leave Africa with the sincere full expectation that it would one day be celebrated as a national holiday after ‘the revolution’ to come, and in which he consistently indicated he expected to play a substantial if not indeed a leading, role. He defined himself as a Marxist Revolutionary and stated clearly and consistently that he saw his purpose in life as bringing about if not leading ‘the revolution’. He supported both personally and with programming choices any number of authoritarian regimes, so long as they were of the left, preferably of the literally extreme Marxist left, lesser lefts not being sufficiently authoritarian and correct for his liking. He stated that he had ‘no use for’ anyone who did not share and adhere to this ideology. He was a great friend of, and paid propagandist for, the authoritarian Marxist regime in Grenada, and was surprised, shocked, and furious when Reagan brought it down – he found it inconceivable and incomprehensible with respect to his worldview.

He was in that respect similar in the degree of his narcissistic system of delusions to Fass, who was so wrapped up in his view of himself as the center of the universe that he literally could not conceive of the board shutting down the station, even briefly, and took years to begin to grapple, unsuccessfully, with that plain, simple fact.

Marksman spoke with complete consistency of having absolutely no use for and complete contempt of ‘bourgeois’ programming for the arts and music, held them and such ‘white, bourgeois’ sensibilities in contempt and at best thinly veiled disgust, and, yes, allowed those them to exist, largely at the increasingly extreme margins, because they brought in good money and it was sufficient to relegate them to the margins of what he saw as irrelevancy so long as they brought in good money and were produced, largely, by folks who were content to do their programming, keep a low profile, and to avoid being in any way ‘troublesome’ with respect to his revolution.

Robert Knight loved him for the simple reason that Knight was Samori’s kind of guy, and because Samori gave him excellent air time as folks like Lopate moved on and were replaced by folks like Knight.

In my judgement, then, he was ‘flexible’ and ‘tolerant’ with respect to programming only in that rather limited and ideologically selective sense.

His programming left WBAI objectively even weaker than it had been in the 1970s by the objective criteria of listenership numbers and financial support, yet given the further decline after the wranglings around the time of the millenium this is viewed as having been ‘successful’.

If the drift of the 1970s is viewed as unacceptable, how is one to view worse drift with respect to listenership and financial support of Marksman’s regime?

    As a ‘success’?

  19. There's no doubt in my mind, as I have said here in the past, that Samori wanted WBAI to become THE voice of the revolution. I just think he had more intelligence about not going all out to get rid of some of the diversity, because he knew it was money. However, remember that Samori cut some peoples' airtimes, like Lopate, in order to fit in his people. Was he financially successful? Well, they still had Folio and ten phone lines. "Stable" may be a better word.

Knight knew whose ass to kiss. He started doing a decent show, but as time went on, went from smug to arrogant prick.

  24. True never heard from the Reimers. Nor ever received the mythical email he was supposed to have sent when this all began. Also my lawyers never got the official report of the scanning of all the computers I had access too. The latter I imagine because no offending material was found on them. The University authorities had them for over for six months. If they had they'd have been legally required to inform the Police. I'd be serving a 3 to 8 year term right now. Also my own lawyers examined all my internet sites...especially my Queer one. There they found three images from a piece I did in 2011 about "Queer teens". For full disclosure they depicted two gay teens at "Gay Pride 2008" holding hands, and kissing. The ages were maybe 16 or 17. I thought it was very sweet, and wrote about my own repressed teen years in comparison. I was told this was 'not' actionable. However someone at the station may have seen this either when I did it or if they were looking for something to use against me. Anyway this is only conjecture from my lawyers...a legal proceeding would have got to the bottom of it. BTW my family still wants to sue the hell out of the Foundation, and the specific individuals involved in my removal. For now I still don't wish to. I think I mentioned the Vow some of us old timers took decades ago about 'Never' harming the station..."no matter what individual did" to us. It was our dear late Fred Kuhn that came up with it on a very fun ' BAI boat ride in 1981. ...as it turned out..."A Hard Vow" indeed.

  25. Seriously, Sydney, it's your business how you handle the matter. It's between you and WBAI management and not for me or anyone else to personally co-opt. Sure, I'd love to see you sue, but it's not my business. I don't think you could sue just Reimers, Katz Ryan and individuals involved without naming Pacifica and/or WBAI in the suit.

Was the boat ride you mention the first WBAI boat ride around Manhattan from back then?

  26. Sydney, I don't know you personally, but you are better than me. I would sue the hell out of them. That, to me, is one of the most horrible things you could say about someone. Libel, pure and simple. As far as harming the station, it isn't the same station you vowed not to harm in 1981. Seems to me all bets are off.

Anyway, I applaud you putting it behind you, and I do respect your decision not to sue. Just saying how I might react if it were me.

  27. Aw gee those "BAI Boat Rides...the place was swell in those days. It was as I remember a day trip to Bear Mountain. There were other trips..around Manhattan at night...others in the day. Fun for the listeners volunteers, and the staff.

The only group events at the station now are the weekly floggings, and now'n then executions.

    1. Floggings? Now you're speaking my language! I have many custom made floggers. Any canings? Now those executions don't sound SSC, though. I don't think they'll pass muster at TES events or demos. See what you did to me, Sydney? See what you caused happen to a teenage kid so long ago? Shameful!

    1. Sidney: Stop kvetching. For the last time, why don't you broadcast on the internet? You can do it expensively or cheaply. Show those BAI losers that they aren't the only game in town.

Sorry hospital stuff, and such prevent that. So it a few weeks later. I'll let everyone know.
