October 2, 2014 Report To the Listener.

By the way, one of the program changes Murillo has made, so far, is to extend "Sports Qualified." When you hear such handling of phone calls as this, you have to question the wisdom of that decision. Let's hope he sees the need for drastic discontinuance of dross. So, while I look for the correct information re this Report, let's hear what you think of the following phone exchange:

  1. She has been @ the station a long time - no problem with giving her more time. She has toiled behind the scenes for years. She is an acolyte of Mario.

  2. The caller makes a lot of sense. Let's give him a show. There are no even moderately conservative black voices on WBAI. The only one was Sidney and he is kaput.

  3. Chris, you just comitted a "form of violence" against me by making me listen to this moronic garbage. Seriously, this isn't even radio; it's an ignoramous bitching bullshit. I'd rather listen to Null, who at least is capable of speaking like a human being and presenting his views clearly.

Sorry, but I disagree on one point. This guy shouldn't have a show by virtue that he respects Al "Tawana Brawley prank" Charlatan. Also, I don't think WBAI is about having conservative voices per se. It is (it was) more about about a variety of left wing voices, from liberal to far left. However, I stress variety, which is what's missing. Now it's ghetto trash talk. Me is oppressed, so gimme gimme gimme.

Anyway, Maclaughlin has always sucked. I remember her from her early days with a weekday morning waste of airspace show in the 1980s. Total no talent and moron. She should be shown the door by Tony & Sledgey and banned from station property.

You wonder why I don't even check in on WBAI much anymore? With only three shows worth listening to (for me), why bother. And I see OTH and TPCS being on the chopping block at some point. If WBAI disappeared, I could still get Letters & Politics on the Web.

It's all just a big joke. I'm really at the point of not caring. It will take just one little push for me to forget WBAI exists at all.

    This scum deserve each other.

    1. Not only did he reveal his blindness to facts re Sharpton, he also deified John Henry Clarke, an opportunist whose rewriting of history brought him into the Kliegs.

  4. I've been wondering something: what is the most bare bones, worst case scenario budget WBAI could possibly survive on? Let's say they put the transmitter in their offices, no one drew any salary, etc. I'm talking about that point where the budget is so low that they can simply transmit shows and nothing else at all. $200,000/year? Less?

The reason I pondered this was to imagine at what point they simply wouldn't be able to even be on the air anymore. I think that is the point where we should begin playing Taps.

    1. You talk as if there is a widgeon of hope. There isn't at this point.
They may soon not have offices to put a transmitter in... they are apparently way behind on their rent there, just as they are at CCNY and, for that matter, the ESB. So, right now they are coasting on their own fantasies, the money situation is getting worse, and there is no sign of listeners returning.

Could they exist on $200,000 a year? I don't believe so. That's only twice as much as they are paying Reimers and when they can't even find the funds to purchase or ship products for which they have received payment, I don't see a u-turn ahead.

Take into account that the current Pacifica Board is dysfunctional, its seats largely occupied by such inept misfits that they feel it necessary to scheme in order to justify their presence.

It's just a matter of time, SDL.

  5. By the way, work was such a bore today that I went and listened to this call again. Now I am not only convinced she's a moron, but she is possibly psychotic. OK, she blabs about looking exactly like her father, sounding like a man, etc. and gets mad at the guy for not knowing she's a women, going so far as to considering that to be an act of "domestic violence." Guess what?! It's fucking radio! He can't see you because there are no visuals on radio.

What planet is this McLaughlin nut on?

    1. She's here on earth and I think her problems are of this planet, but she may have come here via a circuitous route. Geoff Brady would know. Someone should beam her up—with Brady in tow.

Does to bode well for Murillo's direction.

  6. I wasn't around for the OTH and TPCS broadcasts, so I downloaded them from the archives, only to find both shows an audio disaster with tons of non-stop rapid drop outs. Just wondering if anyone knows if this was in the on-air broadcast also, or just in the archives?

I just hope these folks aren't getting into Fass' no form radio format from a few weeks ago...

    1. It's the archives, SDL. I listened to both shows on my cheap little portable FM and did not encounter any dropouts.

    2. OK, thanks. I hope it's not in the actual audio but temporarily in the connection and/or software. You know? "Hope." That thing I seem to have a surplus of...

    3. Who knows? Perhaps they think the new Fass approach is innovative--free form taken the next step. At this point, changing it—obtaining a consistent level, de-humming, etc.--might be a little like filling out the holes in a Swiss cheese.

  7. Report to the listener was pretty worthless. The only thing that I found telling was when Murillo made a crack about low wages working at WBAI and Reimers laughed like it was some sort of inside joke. Other than that, Murillo claims (nicely) that Hartman doesn't fit in, but he also likes Forlano. Go figure. Premiums? Blah blah blah.

Anyway, just worthless. I gave Murillo a chance but now don't see him doing anything of value.

No credit to the callers, at all. Environmental comedian. Jeez!

  8. Reimers came off like the bozo he is, throughout. One caller pointed out the race-based emphasis heard from morn to nite, and I was not surprised to hear denials from Haskins, who is one of the regular practitioners of that huge flaw. I will post that and a couple of other extracts tonight.

I, too, loved the selfie by the "environmental comedian," and how it triggered an embarrassing, delayed mumble from Reimers. Will be posting that one, too.
