WBAI LSB Head Quits

This was posted Wednesday, October 3, 2018. No explanation.

Does anybody know why Bob Young made such an abrupt departure?

  1. We don't know what sparked this, but WBAI's current fund drive is bombing, morale at the station is low and management (if one can call it that) is still hiding under the desk. Bob was the non-JUC head of the LSB.

    Stay tuned.

  2. first 2 days of thon for BAI is < $6,000 a day and wonder boy Leonard has raised $325 and 3 BAI Butties.

KPFA has 2 days to go and so far is short $148,073 on a goal of $575K

  3. And how are the rest of the stations doing? Why the implication that KFPA is failing when it has already raised hundreds of thousands of dollars more than WBAI? Take care of your own house first before casting stones. And BTW - it's obvious that the resignation is not actually handwritten, but is one of those fake handwritten fonts. So, is the resignation real?

    1. The handwriting is indeed a font, but the message is what really counts and I have not been able to prove otherrwise.

Given the generally dire state of Pacifica’s finaancial situation, KPFA raising more money than WBAI (if that is so) cannot be taken as a measure of success.

  4. are all stations falling prey to trying to get $$$$ [nationally, globally? not just locally] at same time ?

KPFK has fund begging on. and of the worst is Christine B.- on at 3pm - who is a hustler, exaggerator, tho effective-as-Sales Promoter, Advertiser - to those listeners who feel inadequate, unhappy, fat, ugly, sick or just greedy. As just heard, again, in her on air promos [ then repeated & repeated] - i. e. to sell 'free tickets' for $120 ++ ha ha ..
to a workshop. She does this well, with faked enthusiasms... with guy who gets profits later, for these 'free-donated-samples'...even while promoting Her Own "consulting on the side" too at same time.... [ tho the details were carefully not stated ]

This is what makes the words "non-profit" & "not commercial" seem like obvious LIES... when there is actual advertising and promoting and selling under the guise of "fund raising".

Someone needs to reign in the sad claims of neediness and pretend myth of "going out of business if you don't pay us right now" themes that Pacifica fund-us stories imply. = Pity us. Save us. Pay us. More. More. More.

Then the adulating the donor's & stuff, & exaggerating that "all is good ! best! real!" = as benefits are hyped claims that are unrealistic and with very commercial-sounding words - then later repeated as refrain continues every fund drive. This is plain old SELLING : of workshops, lectures, get on email lists, buy our unusual 'healthful products' etc. Most sound dubious+questionable, definitely not available in more legit sites either.

[ some donors = these really are Promoters who love to use KPFK-Pacifica fund drives to then have names, addresses, accesses to again be used for more promos - for their own future businesses, profits, gains, of course. ]

Many donors are also by people who are un-certifiable, i.e. 'life coaches' - who have no responsible authentications or certifications to insure accountability of their services/ products either. ]

So all those commercialized promises: said to 'perfect' / predict / insure /only assured- Success to everyone / anyone ... who pays up now ! -

wow... such obliviously commercialized advertisements - are heard for weeks, about 3 whole months a year ? Now again, the very same and similar sales claims.

but of course, everyone knows ...LA and KPFK is in the heart of the pretend-faked-world of entertainment and lots of imagined-images-dreams & media lives there. oh.... is that why it blatantly continues & is allowed ?

But KPFK/ Pacifica does Not Admit this. Nor correct or be honest. No one is accountable - of course not. It is just as movies, TV, entertainment productions are not actual. These products too are mainly imaginary, dreams, drama worlds. so these sales-promotions are same, Not as other realities might be elsewhere ?

    1. How true that is, and how inexplicable it is that the PNB members haven't seen what is so glaringly clear to the rest of us. Surely, they are aware, but with head in sand.

  5. Not saying that KPFA is failing, but they are struggling a bit. Each of the last few drives have fallen short, and they have made up a portion of the shortfall with some on air pitches to go to kpfa.org for a few weeks after the drive.

  6. My eyes just rolled all the way up into my skull. I just did one of my rare (these days) tunings to WBAI and heard a PSA for an event where people can go to see holy sandals. No, I'm not joking. It was even nice enough to inform us they accept donations for the viewing.

This is the kind of stuff WBAI needs. Maybe the heavens will rain gold upon them after a shaman bops around mumbling.

Oh, and look. WFMU sent me a mailing that they need some money. Needless to say, I will be happy to support them with a donation. WFMU is a REAL radio station!
