An unvarnished blog that dips into the past and comments
on the present of WBAI-FM, a once significant, intelligent New York
radio station that for years has suffered chronic abuse from within and now
nears extinction. Your comments are welcomed and will not be censored.
The report contains one important omission. Although the "rent" at the new transmitter site may be about $12,000 per month, this does not include the amortized cost of the new transmitter to be installed there. Consequently, the total monthly payment due may be significantly higher than $12,000. At this point, without knowing the cost of the new transmitter, or the duration of amortization period, there is no way of estimating the monthly payment.
We're out of the lease. Don't worry about the money we borrowed. Don't worry about the ability to make payments. Everything is just great. Now with the firm leadership of Berthold, we are on the way back to prosperity. All our wonderful programs with their dozens of listeners will continue to be available and you can support them by becoming a WBAI buddy. No really you have to. Reimers said so.
This is great news. Berthold deserves a bonus. And at least a 10% raise as a sign of appreciation for all this "hardship posting" in keeping BAI on the air. Let's quickly contact Sam to cut a check before he leaves (maybe a golden parachute check for himself?)
All this reminds me very much of a Bonnie Tyler song..
Late at night I toss and I turn And I dream of what I need
I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night He's gotta be strong And he's gotta be fast And he's gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light He's gotta be sure And it's gotta be soon And he's gotta be larger than life!

ReplyDeleteThe press release stated that the Lessor was covering those costs. Why not? It will be theirs in the long run.-

DeleteFree Money! Capitalism is evil -- why repay them?? Hire back all the WBAI staff that was let go, raises for Bates and Butthole. Extra cakes for Cathy!
