Pacifica rescue plan 3-30-2017

Attached is the plan that I sent to the California Attorney General's office this afternoon.

I hope it is self-explanatory and answers the questions you have. If not, I'll be glad to answer more questions about this and other matters during the iED report at the PNB meeting tonight, assuming we actually get to the iED report.

Regarding the many questions some of you have had, and which I have not had time to answer individually, note that yes there are contingency plans in here, that we'd all like to avoid. And yes, I think we can avoid them. Recall that the AG also had big concerns about problems with our governance. But the AG will want to know what we can do if our main plans are not successful. As I told you a few weeks ago, they asked for a plan by the end of this month "for either establishing Pacifica's financial stability or dissolving the organization". Obviously, we absolutely do not plan to dissolve Pacifica, but they want to know that we are serious about getting our problems under control.

What you can do: The best way to avoid any of the contingencies in this plan are to help your station to get more listeners, get more members, and get more donations. I hope all of you are doing that, too. That also helps us to fulfill the Pacifica mission. Much of what I'm doing is oriented towards that.

Thanks for your support of your station and of Pacifica.

  1. This is a well-presented plan, but I fail to see how it's anything other than a wish list.

I can't speak as to the considerations of the CA AG, but I can't imagine it satisfying any serious review of any objective outside party.

    Perhaps that’s only me.

ps: I may have missed it, but is there any clear statement as to how the funds which were wrongly used by a few stations are to be replenished?, which was a requirement of the CA AG.

  2. Good luck Bill. As I read this I am listening to a 3:00am repeat of the Maree (Marie) Faustin show which has some of the most inane conversations I've ever heard. Faustin may be pretty, but she nor her quests are particularly funny. On the other hand, "wannabee" Savona Bailey McClain's show will be on later in the day at 5:00am and then repeated again in the wee hours. Really, do these shows "Neilsen ratings" justify 4 hours of valuable air time every week? What audiences are they catering to? The space would be better served with repeat shows of Michio Kaku, Peter Bochan, Randy Credico or someone else with some redeeming value for the few night owl listeners still tuning into the station.

  3. Bill, I cannot in good conscience support mediocrity, but when you have weeded this garden to a reasonable degree, I will rethink. In the meantime, you have this blog's encouragement.

  5. I caught the other night's PNB shindig and, while tamer than usual, Cerene and Adriana still find ways to impede progress. I love how Adriana keeps claiming she's muted, even though we can all hear her.

    1. If you can't listen to the PNB meetings, you can always read the hundreds of messages sent to everyone across Pacifica by Cerene. They run the gamut from thoughtful to angry. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll sigh as you try to figure out how to filter her messages out of you inbox.

    2. Soon you find yourself seriously wondering how this sorry ball of belligerence can be deflated and dumped.

She is nothing but a malicious menace.

    3. So the secret to her girth is sitting around sending out messages and not getting more than finger exercising? Got ya...

  6. I had a laugh about an hour ago. I was on line at Walgreens behind Rob T. Firefly of OTH. No, I didn't introduce myself, but I did ask to see the front of his hacker themed T shirt. The lady with him said she liked my Soylent Corporation T shirt. When they were parting, I said, "Stay secure."

    1. Interesting coincidence--you should have told him that you are in your third year of waiting for that premium :)

    2. HAHA! But not my style to play a prank like that, especially when he's with company.

    3. We've got to get SDL on the air. He would be awesome. He would double the listeners, annoy the current listeners and easily raise more than anyone except maybe Gary Null. The only problem is that he would be treated like Gary Null.

    4. "The only problem is that he would be treated like Gary Null." Did they hang, draw and quarter him already? I must have missed that piece of news. :P

    5. As far as I can tell, Null is no longer heard on WBAI. There is talk of Bates being the instigator. Null talked about it on his own system's Utrice Reid show, but it was deleted rather quickly.

    6. Yeah, I remember the story. Frankly, who cares. Knowing him, he'll probably slither his way back, especially if his finances dip and/or those of WBAI. Personally, I still say DN, for all its faults, is far better at noon than that Alex Jones lefty spiritual brother.
