Not true! Not true! Not true!

Geoff Brady's weekly show of fear-inducing fantasies is on level with supermarket tabloids—laughably ridiculous, but decidedly fabricated. Brady, however, takes it all seriously, which is why his weekly WBAI show, "In Other News", attracts many guests who are not likely to be heard pushing their web site or self-published book on any other station.

Brady has been spewing his nonsense at 99.5 for several years, readily accepting as fact the most outrageous claims. You will never hear him challenge anything—like Haskins and others at the station, he tends to regard truth as an obstacle rather than an enlightenment, so don't tell him that men actually landed on the moon. They couldn't have, he insists, the whole thing was staged in a studio and that moon was but a hologram.

Of course, Brady shares Haskins' zero tolerance for criticism, as you will hear on the following phone call from last Monday's show:

  1. "Agent provocateur" and "people like you" are just too funny. I guess to a mentally unbalanced childlike mind like Brady, a caller who disagrees is automatically part of a conspiracy. The truth is all the clowns like Brady (most are on internet stations) are Art Bell wannabes, however, Bell was fun. The rest suck.

As for Haskins, he's just an idiot.

  2. Why is this program on the air? It actually hurts the mission. Even if it raised money, WBAI shouldn't accept it. Bad enough he is on the air but on Monday nights? BTW How are people phoning in? I thought we had a huge phone bill. Did we just send the bill to Pacifica like Radford did at KPFK?

    1. WBAI airs many shows that don't belong on a Pacifica station as Lew Hill conceived it. Some, such as Brady's, disqualify due to the presentation of fantasy as fact, others because they are nothing more than veiled commercials or blatant propaganda, still more because they are self-serving, amateurish crap.

The victims are the listeners, an overwhelming majority of whom have elected to tune out, making the ultimate victim the station itself.

  3. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Guess what Kane and Tiokashit will discuss- How Squanto was an Uncle Tom in helping the Pilgrims survive so that their compatriots could genocide the peace-loving native peoples of this continent. UGG!

  4. Just felt like leaving a comment, even though there is no topic. Must be your imitation of Bob Fass...

    1. Much appreciated, SDL—comments without a tangible destination land in limbo, so I popped it in here.

No, I haven't descended as low as you suggest—did you hear an unstirred cocktail of grunts, blather and fragmented fifes sprinkled with drops of Dylan? I thought not :)

    4. Questions could be raised as to who owns what is on these tapes and, indeed, the tapes themselves. That said, the article gives too much credit to Bob for "pioneering." When I rehired him, it was to conduct a show that combined recorded and live music with informal talk. I had done just that on WHAT in Philly, a few years earlier, and I never thought I was pioneering anything—I'm sure this was being done all over the country.

      Here's a WHAT example from 1960. http://stomp-off.blogspot.com/2010/07/in-1959-when-i-was-disc-jockey-at-what.html

    5. That's interesting. So now some Pacifica tapes will be properly cared for.

    6. That was pretty good, Chris, and you even have the evidence. That sets you apart from people who make claims of all sorts. You even had noise going over the air. I thought Bob may have pioneered that in the past couple of years, but I'm wrong again. I'm so damned disillusioned now...

    1. Basir Mchawi, the host/producer of Education at the Crossroads took a new path a long time ago, joining the pseudo-radical con artists whose racist rhetoric killed the station's listenership.

    2. Basir Mchawi allows for various points of view on his program. Last night, he had on Leonard Jeffreys.
