An unvarnished blog that dips into the past and comments
on the present of WBAI-FM, a once significant, intelligent New York
radio station that for years has suffered chronic abuse from within and now
nears extinction. Your comments are welcomed and will not be censored.
It would appear, from what limited information is available to the public, that this is how Pacificans allocate their time, their attention, and their energies as they appear from all evidence to be not-so-very-slowly bleeding out financially – and attempt no actions to address the situation other than to plan their elections, discuss possible bylaw changes, plan to make plans… someday.
One has to wonder why John Proffitt gave up on the lot of them after all of five months as Executive Director.
Part of their desultory and infinitely meandering meetings refer to planning for posting and evaluation by various committees of candidates for Executive Director.
Of course. Right. There will be a wealth of suitable candidates, and they’ll still be meeting and planning away many months from now…
The LSB hasn't met all year. There's no way an evaluation of the WBAI GM could have been completed. The last I heard, their committee was endlessly surveying everyone remotely involved with Pacifica.
For over five years, the WBAI LSB has with regularity announced GM evaluation on their agenda, yet Pacifica continues paying Berthold Reimers close to $10,000 a month and he continues doing nothing. In fact, the few decisions he has made have pushed the station deeper into the mire of meaningless mishmash and accelerated the larges listener-supporter exodus in its history.
I would be surprised if they are even looking for candidates.
Can people help me out Pacifica style. I need to form a committee to evaluate the possibility of drafting the idea of a shopping list to later be drafted by another committee for a shopping trip to be evaluated by another committee to a supermarket to be chosen by an evaluating committee... if I don't starve to death first...
There are so many different sides to this -- keep in mind that there are no differences. There are only different degrees of difference between different degrees of difference and no difference.
He has apparently been told that putting that ill-read tale of fiction immediately before "Democracy Now!" is a bad idea, so he wonders if he ought to throw it in an hour earlier. The man is, as you say, clueless. He seems to think that he has come up with his very own black "War and Peace," which was Kathy Dobkins' brilliant idea in WBAI's more enlightening period.
I smell a future "thank you gift" — these poor, simpleminded fools ought not wonder why that "GAME OVER" light is blinking with increased rapidity.
The other day when I heard him asking for comments about continuing to play it, he sounded pretty dejected. I doubt he's received more than a few emails about it. What a doof. Haskins has a reverse Midas touch - everything he touches turns from tin to used toilet paper.

DeleteAn excellent idea, Justinej. The next time I go for a silly walk, I'll head that way.

ReplyDeleteI am indifferent to the differences, but there are times when I find myself attempting to differentiate.
Deletehaskins wondering if anybody wants to hear incidents in the life of a slave girl anymore .
