Who's on top?

High on the list of the current corrupt Pacifica National Board's secrets is the contractual agreement WBAI/Pacifica signed with the Empire State Building and its current wording. We don't know what changes Berthold Reimers "negotiated" in his alleged marathon sessions with the ESB, but here is the original one, dating back to June 27, 2005.

ESB Pacifica WBAI lease.

    4. The coup de grâce was struck many moons ago, the question is, who will finish it. The list of candidates is longer than the unemployment line that beckons. The insurrection killed the resurrection, as it were.

Serene was at it again yesterday, disrupting a teleconference that she was attended under rigged pretenses.

Did anyone hear Berthold Reimers mumble a money pitch in the past couple of days... he only comes out at begin time, which is getting pretty close.

    5. Yeah, I heard the cartoon sounding Reimer's mumbo jumbo. Funny thing is how lost he sounds doing it. Add to that, how many listeners even know who he is? It's not like he appears even rarely.

What conference was it with Cerene doing her usual?

    7. It seems Cerene is literally on every call. Its just bizarre. Why would anyone willingly sit on any more disorganized calls than they had to? Perhaps, she is suffering some kind of trauma from participating in too many of these painful excuses for meetings. A sort of Pacifica PTSD? If Pacifica had a committee for putting things on top of other things, I'd bet she would be on the call just in case.

    8. Serene is obviously obsessed by whatever her agenda might be. As far as I can tell, there i no rhyme or reason for her phone trolling. She is articulate and cunning, but she is not well. My 2¢

    9. I believe Cerene is a psychotic JUC yuk who imagines herself as a very important representative of their cause. I also believe the amount of time she gets on these calls only serves to increase her own self-importance. Luckily, she's on the phone and not in person, due to the violent antics that got her banned from WBAI, until recently.

And, just for the record. I hated Prince. He was nothing more than commercial pop crap music, second only to Michael Jackson in worthlessness, as far as I am concerned.

    10. I was never a big fan of Prince either, but that is a matter of taste. But, even if I were a fan, I would consider WBAI's beatification of him excessive. Obviously, they would not be rending their garments this way if Prince were not African-American.

    11. I admired his independence and the fact that he never allowed himself to fall into a groove. His stance on music business predators and Warner Bros. Records also won my admiration. The fact that he ws a good performer—played some fine guitar on occasion—also helped shape my positive opinion.

Sad to say, I have to agree that ethnicity is a determining factor when it comes to the BAI bozos turning on their "grief."

  3. Last night on Out-FM, they interviewed a head AIDS activist from South Africa. Very informative if it ever comes up on archives. Unfortunately, these breaths of fresh air are so infrequent and they are a trick to get thinking people to fund WBAI and give to the race hustlers. These are loss leaders, a typical bait and switch fraud. I am not fooled, not should anybody be. Sorry, NO MOOLAH.

  5. Agreed about Prescod. Unlike Daniels, Byrd , Howard Jordan among others , that seem to be incapable

But they do have a knack for getting guests that will turn any subject into a black one .

    1. Being on the same wavelength as the host/producer is, I believe, a prerequisite. Knight worked that way, too, only his micro vision was not wholly racial. They have apparently also realized, at long last, that the WBAI audience not only is black, but also of a dumbed down variety, so they aim at at that—preaching to the tin-eared choir.

The May fundraiser is going to be interesting, in a pathetic, boring sort of way. I doubt if they will have much luck with it. Flying enforcements in from KPFK may seem less attractive now, that station's cash registers haven't exactly sparked noise complaints.

  8. No, they really are stupid enough to think they are speaking to the masses and leading the revolution.

In fact, I just turned on WBAI to hear Kane sign off with a song about starting the revolution.

I wonder how they get away with plugging non-Pacifica fundraisers, complete with phone number. I just heard one of those on Cuba in Focus.

    5. That's true. There was a lot of Haskins-type nonsense about WBAI being "family" with a mission to serve the "community." These small-minded opportunists are "led" by an empty entity of their own mentality.

While it's basically a con game, I sense that some of the actually believe the fabricate proprietorship—they're certainly dumb enough. Haskins often sounds like he is trying to convince himself of this fantasy being reality.

      The death watch continues...

  10. "Family" and "community" are just propaganda buzz words to try to make the morons who listen feel like they are part of something. All public broadcasters use such terminology.

I suspect most people at WBAI believe, or try to be believe, they are part of something of importance. You have to remember that these people move in a very limited milieu and have no concept of the outside world. All they know is the station. All they care about are their shows, which without would render their existences meaningless. That's why I call them cultists. They really are meaningless people, except for, maybe, Null, who uses the station for his own purposes AND successfully.

Also, if you didn't see yet, I ripped on RPM a bit over on his board. With all the bans, I think he has as many users there as Fass has listeners, about six.

    1. They are the super who walks around with a ton of keys and makes sure that you see them. When people repeatedly say that they are "family," it usually means that they are anything but that.

Let us always keep in mind that we cannot generalize, for there are some truly good, skilled people aboard, people like Habte Selassie, whom you mentioned, Prairie Miller, Whent, Irsay, McCourt, Freund, Max, and Chico Alvarez, Michio Koku and Doug Henwood come to mind. I wouldn't dismiss the Morning Dew guys and OTH is usually pretty good, but the old PC guys are at this point highly dispensable.

Null is very iffy in my mind.

Yes, I saw the reality check you gave RPM. Couldn't agree more.

    2. My first apartment had a super like that - big key ring jingling as he walked, loud voice always yapping, hand always out for a tip, and he couldn't fix a damn thing.

I didn't mean to leave people out, of course. I was just typing off the top of my head while also working. There are those whom I like. There are those whom I feel do a good job at what they do, but what they do may not be of interest to me, personally. I guess you could say I respect them rather than like them. However, in the end, most WBAI people are crap.

I've listened to OTH and TPCS forever, as you can probably guess. I hate to say this, but I like OTH better when Goldstein isn't on these days. He has really become a whining kid in his age. I'm partial to Bernie S, who I think makes the most lucid observations of the crew. However, still a good show overall. I'll forgive the Canada trip travelogue.

TPCS is still useful, in my opinion, even if just to answer listener questions. However, it does sometimes seem to be a comedy duo routine now.

Null has made money, but not just via WBAI. He's been all over the place with his shtick and received much exposure.

  11. Is there a rule/policy regarding plugging non-Pacifica fundraisers? I've heard some journalists outside Pacifica will usually include website links for listeners/readers to learn more about some non-profit as part of their reporting.

    1. I don't think any laws/rules are broken by promoting a non-profit organization or event on WBAI's air, but what I often hear them plug is somewhat iffy affairs from which individuals very likely make a personal profit. Jeannie Hopper's boat rides and dances are, I believe, examples of this--the plug may include a vague, unspecified percentage going to WBAI, but that doesn't pass the smell test. Notice that we are seldom, if ever, given a total realized by the station.

One thing they do abide by is not mentioning the price of admission, but these "events" cost the attendees more than the price of a ticket... There are such things as open bars, t-shirts and other merchandise. Don't just tell us that scores of people showed up and fun was had by all... This is a station sponsored, allegedly, by it's listeners. They are owed a breakdown of income, as well as how it was dispersed and spent.

Quite another matter is the wisdom of raising money for an outside enterprise or cause when at the same time scamming one's own to stay afloat.

WBAI and, indeed, Pacifica have been taken over by corrupt, morally bankrupt opportunists.

    2. I remember last year when Prescod was pitching for money for an ebola charity during the outbreak in Africa. The situation was that the station or Pacifica had to receive prior permission from the FCC before it was allowed. However, of course, Pacifica didn't request the permission from the FCC until after she already started [itching for the money.

Hence, I guess the rules are that you need to file a request with the FCC in advance and receive their permission in order to allow pitching for a third party charity.

I don't think there is a problem if you don't have actual pitching on the station but simply tell people how to go to an outside entity who may be asking for money. An example is recently how OTH told people to go to the EFF website and to support them. They didn't mention any actual prices.

    3. Thanks. I had no idea. I was thinking about the station promoting groups like Doctors Without Borders. I checked with Charity Navigator which rates non-profits. They issued a donor advisory for Pacifica citing the Summer Reese affair and the CA Attorney General probe. There is no separate listing for WBAI. Democracy Now is rated 79.99 and PRI 74.51.

    4. I should have mentioned promos that fall into the (PSA) Public Service Announcement category. I believe every station is obligated to air a certain number/percentage of them—at least that's how it was in my day.

Thanks for the Charity Navigator info—interesting.

    5. I don't think PSAs are required anymore. The Reagan era FCC got rid of almost all, if not all, public service requirements, time limits per hour for commercials, etc. It was called "deregulation." No, the seven dirty words remained.

      SDL

    6. Thanks, SDL. Reagan killed a lot of sensible regulations. As for the seven deadly words... they contain not a single letter that cannot be flashed in neon or shouted from a mountaintop. Ergo, all they need is a slight scramble :) I wonder if Trump will ban bleeps?

These fools are trapped in world of their own making, so I can't feel sorry for them. Their victims? Well, that's quite another matter.

    2. Previous to WBAI, Bob Law was on a low power AM station that nobody could pick-up beyond line of sight of the transmitter. WBAI gave this schlemiel a forum on a 50,000 W transmitter on top of the ESB. That's why I ain't paying for it.
