How the July 8 PNB Meeting ended

This is but the last minute and a half, or so. Make of it what you will. Proffitt is coming to WBAI, although not as promised by Reimers and his cronies. Hear his presentation from the July 8 meeting (above).

And this just popped up on the WBAI site...

  1. I guess we will find out what Proffitt is made of when he sees WBAI. It should be interesting to see his reaction. He may be the one saying, "I'm confused... I'm totally confused..."

What I wish I could see are his reactions to observing these bozos in the flesh.

    1. Will Reimers come out of hiding? Will there be a walking tour through the new studio? Will they put Mr. Proffitt in the closet (i.e. on the air)?

    2. 1. Kicking and screaming
      2. Only if taking 3 or 4 small steps, like when walking in the dark and trying not to fall over things you can't see, counts
      3. Doubtful. However, if they do, they better not have the phone system up and running... (looks at his phone)

Mini fund drive... Seriously? They already have a beg-a-thon scheduled for August. How is this all going to work out? One will go into the other, for essentially 6 or 7 weeks of begging? So, we basically had a beg-a-thon end in abject failure and a new one begin, with about 4 weeks of programming interrupting them?

    3. They may be cross-breeding marathons. Desperate people will try anything.....

  2. I’d imagine this will be a time of some considerable anxiety for Reimers. Tomorrow, Friday, he, along with other unit managers, is to present his figures and his forward projections to Proffitt, in the full knowledge that Proffitt will be headed his direction in only a few days, and presumably in the full knowledge that Proffitt is on record as saying that the present infomercial fund-raising model is morally unacceptable, inappropriate to Pacifica’s mission, legally questionable, and doomed to failure, that there will have to be staff reductions, and that ‘Using home accounting software is one of the disasters that has beset Pacifica in my opinion and in the opinion of the auditors,’ and that ‘… the auditors talk abour the difficulty in getting reconciliations and original invoices and records….’

In most organizations items like those are grounds for immediate termination, with prejudice.

Reimers may also have on his mind Proffitt’s thoughts re the Empire State Building lease situation, the state of the facilities at 388, with respect to which Proffitt has said there is no excuse for there not being provision for handicapped access and for there having been no signed lease for so very, very long.

    Yup, should be fun.

  3. Geoff Brady is back, if you didn't hear him just now, on Friday mornings 3AM-4AM. Unbelievable.

  4. The only thing WBAI can "drive" is listeners away.

    1. That has indeed been a successful, if unintended, effort.
