Poisoning WBAI's air

I came across the following observations by Rachel Barr elsewhere on the web, where Frank Lefever had posted it for wider circulation.

I agree wholeheartedly with Rachel, whom I have never met, but occasionally come across on FaceBook.

I hope this broadcast (audio clip below) and Rachel Barr's thoughts reach Bill Crosier, who could do something about the Reimers/Bates disaster, but I'm afraid I fully understand the pull-the-plug solution she brings up. Anyway, read this and add your own comments:
Today, Tuesday, Oct 17, a show hosted by Geoff Brady who does a show on  Monday nights from 11-12 was on the air from 9-11AM. Bates repeated it from 4-6PM and again from 9-11. This show was about conspiracy theories that attempt to explain the hurricane  in Ireland and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Tony Bates, while pitching, said that Bill McKibben's theories on climate change are bogus because he's funded by the Rockefeller Foundation..This was not only an insult to  Bill McKibben's work but to Democracy Now, as Amy has had Mr. McKibben on many times.. Also disrespectful to the young people who have gotten so involved in the climate change movement, not to mention Standing Rock. Not cool to dis your media colleagues on the air. Very rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. If Geoff Brady wants to have such kind of guests on to talk about such conspiracy  theories, that's fine. I don't listen to a lot of BAI's programs for many different reasons. However,  to have this particular show on to make money from it is equivalent to BAI  selling 9/11.. I know many people who lost loved ones on that date. They aren't interested in anyone making money off of it. And so it's the same with Puerto Rico.. Im sure that people who are Puerto Rican, whether they live on  the "mainland" or not, and those, like myself, who have been helping Puerto Rico since Maria struck the island aren't interested in hearing about engineering that created the hurricanes. Puerto Ricans are more than knowledgeable about the history of the u.s. government invading that island in 1898, that it's a colony, sterilized the women, and bombed Vieques. I'm sure they are much more interested on getting water, water, water, water, insulin, generators, and antibiotics.

Tony Bates further went on to criticise the Board of Pacifica calling them close minded because they did not think the program which aired 3 times in one day was appropriate.

The one good show that David Kinney aired on Sunday Oct 15 from 9PM-11PM was not re aired .. It was about Paul Robeson's testimony in front of HUAC, he played "What is America to Me" and the testimony of the Hollywood 10. Shame on Bates that he called out the Board on this. This is unprofessional, rude and disrespectful.

I hope that Toby Bates faces ramifications/disciplinary measures for allowing this particular show to be used for fund raising purposes and for "dissing" the Board publicly.

Perhaps if BAI doesn't make the 1.8 it won't be such a bad thing -- with a PD such as this one, maybe its time for  the station to go... I've given money over 40 years, been listening  for more than that, worked there for 10 years, but there is no more community, there is no flavor. I never get an email answered nor was I literally allowed to buy a premium because they were trying to make me  pay for all of it at the same time. No way to do business.

It was a good 57 years. Good luck
Feel free to respond, please.

  1. From the Credico thread that you posted, Chris:

"...outgoing interim fund drive coordinator Tony Bates."

Is Bates leaving? Maybe he doesn't give a shit what he does? If he's not leaving, maybe the pressure is on and he's desperate, like Reimers sounds desperate. Is he just a nut? Who knows. One thing I also noticed is his comments about the board. Obviously he has a bone to pick with them, or they with him.

I think the heat is on, even if we aren't hearing about it.

    1. Did I write that? If I did, it was wishful thinking or, perhaps, a prediction.

      The heat is definitely on.

    2. Chris, re-read Credico's words in the "POOF! Credico was gone..." thread. It's the 2nd to last paragraph.

    3. Just read it again—totally missed it the first time. Did Credico know something the rest of us didn't. Bates isn't even outgoing in the personality sense of the word—or is he?

    4. Credico may know something that the rest of us have yet to learn, but he has yet to impress with his insight.

    Funny what pushes people's buttons.
I don't know who Rachel Barr is, but reading what she wrote makes me wonder if she only started listening to WBAI last week.
    She writes:
"However, to have this particular show on to make money from it is equivalent to BAI selling 9/11.."
Uh, is she unaware that WBAI has been making money off 9/11 conspiracies for a decade and a half?

i doubt the people of PR or their supporters care about someone connecting the hurricane to an old conspiracy theory on a station almost nobody listens to. But if that still concerns her, why isn't she troubled by the distorted, hate-inciting "history" that Tony and the station push?
And why does she find Tony's criticism of the PNB so objectionable but is not bothered that the PNB and WBAI brought back Tony - the "Harvey Weinstein" of the station, after he was dismissed due to complaints about his behavior?

Maybe Tony could make up for offending Puerto Ricans by sending then some Double Helix water!

    1. From what I have seen on FaceBook, Rachel Barr is a smart woman. She did say that she listens to the station intermittently, but I bet she is fully aware of the unsavory opportunism that takes place as they scramble to keep their "show" on the air.

    2. Rachel Barr is no innocent - she was part of the Bernard White/Samori Marksman cabal that defecated on the station many years ago - give her credit - she may have seen the light. But she has plenty of turds to clean up - turds she deposited in the station.

  3. What in the world are Brady and Bates spraying? A deep state operating weather control tech. to make it appear like a natural disaster? Is this the same group that can barely get supplies to Texas and Puerto Rico? NATO causing droughts in Iran? Is this the same NATO that can barely afford to maintain their own militaries? Waking people up? I'm waking up to realize what complete idiots Brady and Bates are. They wish the Feds cared enough to get in their way. Its not a phone tap Bates. Its your equipment failing. Its the station going off the air. Its the stream going down.

    1. Of course it does not add up that the government and, indeed, the moron in the White House are going to great length to harass a radio station that has already been made insignificant by those who occupy it.

    2. Prescod, among others, trying to sell the new "judiciary is out to shut WBAI down" conspiracy is pretty funny. Let's make the listeners believe that the government is making its move to shut us down because Trumpty Dumpty is president. Some of The Remnants will probably believe this tripe, but these are the same people who believe the weather is being controlled, blacks were the first Americans and had advanced cities, etc.

There will always be some crackpots who will believe anything.

    3. Prescod is a joke that falls flat. This afternoon she was back to selling the Cuba-Congo package that she claims can only be had though Pacifica. Her patience is running low, as usual, but it obviously has not occurred to her that Castro Saves the Congo isn't the sort of thing people feel compelled to purchase.

At least she acknowledges Castro's death on this one.

  4. I just thought of an hypothesis as to why Crosier has not made any effort to clean up the WBAI latrine. If it has already been decided that WBAI will be put on the chopping block to clear up all of Pacifica's arrears (ESRT judgment, past-due pension payments, etc.), then why bother?

    1. That's a good point, but he did stop Brady's zapper sale at the September infomercial-thon.

    2. 1. That was out-and-out fraud (as opposed to mere ideological bullshit), which might have resulted in criminal penalties for Pacifica. 2. That was before the ESRT judgment was issued by the court.

    3. I said basically the same thing (that WBAI was up for sale, lease or deal) recently. I think something secret is going on, which is why Reimers sounds so desperate and Bates is going ever more nuts.

    4. At this point, I don't care of they sell the frequency to the BGMASH (Bubble Gum Music Appreciation Society of Weehawken), as long as they give the boot to Reimers, Bates, Haskins, Davis and the other desecrators.

  5. I think WBAI should continue to follow their very successful pattern of insulting the ESRT by holding a demonstration and sit-in/civil disobedience at the ESB. That should really be the topping on the cake.

    2. Nice idea!

You know what? They should make Babbling Bob the final GM for WBAI before its destruction, kind of like how Donitz ran the Third Reich for the last few days.

    5. Let's not rush—how about forming a committee to put together a committee that might have ideas on how to approach selection of a final GM?

    6. Of course we might need a review committee to perform an integrity check of the original committee's members. That committee should, of course, consist of carefully selected former members of the Committee for Less Bureaucratic Procedures.

I think there may be an app for the latter.
