A ray of light?

IT'S OFFICIAL!

Washington D.C- (Note: A full newsletter will be published as soon as travel schedule permits. In the meantime, the enclosed brief update is being sent to help Pacifica members monitor December board transitions in their local areas).

Pacifica's national election supervisor Lynne Serpe has provided certification of Pacifica's 2016 board election results, despite not having been paid by interim executive director Lydia Brazon for work done in September and October - both of her last two invoices.

Serpe's certification letter can be seen here, and completes the 2016 election process, except for the submission of a post-election documentation report.

The delay in certification, caused by Brazon's delinquency, could have prevented the seating of Pacifica's newly elected local boards in December. Members of Brazon's faction, like WBAI listener rep Cerene Roberts in New York, issued emails saying they objected to and protested newly elected board members taking their seats without a certification letter in hand. Robert's email "formally challenged the validity of the results of any meeting held before certification"

Fortunately, such formal challenges will now be unnecessary as certification has kindly been provided by Serpe, despite being owed thousands of dollars by Pacifica's national office.

Pacifica's bylaws on the role of the national election supervisor can be read here.

A timeline of the now more than two year old coup by the Siegel/Brazon faction can be seen here.

  2. TPCS was the same prerecorded program on both PRN and WBAI tonight. The difference was the PRN broadcast had good audio, while the WBAI sounded like an old stretched tape. Obviously the audio quality difference was at the stations, not on the audio file.

    1. After last week's TCPS, I wonder if anybody tuned in. I thought it was a very uninteresting show.

    2. Can't disagree. Hank and Joe don't really seem to be too up to date on current news. Granted Joe seems to be very sick and has that excuse, but Hank should pick up the slack. Now they seem to have added that guy who does the prerecorded bits about different stuff, but he isn't that great.

Ultimately, I guess, TPCS is an old listening habit of mine, but I find myself pushing myself to listen to it these days. The same can be said for Emmanuelle Goldstein's rant fest known as OTH.

Anyway, for tech and computer shows, I'm better going to twit.tv.

    3. Twit has not gone stale, but it sound like OTH si getting there. and you know how I feel about TPCS—they appear to be stick in the 60s. Having been on the air for decades is no excuse for not moving with the times.

    4. Goldstein's weekly script is getting mad that people who used computers to break into computer system are called hackers. Um, OK...

    5. He sounded a bit peeved. Do the OTH guys ever hack the hackers? I mean the bad guys.

    6. Well, unless they are total idiots, they won't admit to it. If they did, I bet they wuld be hacked to hell.

However, I know Bernie S did some hacking.

    7. Interesting..... Bernie should have stayed away from Radio Shack. :)

    8. Well, back in the day, Radio Shack had all these little hobby boxes and parts for people who made different electronic homebrew projects, most perfectly innocent.

Below is a link to Goldstein's epic documentary, Freedom Downtime, which is actually pretty decent and a fun ride. If you don't want to watch the entirety, go to about 1h:35m into the film for the Bernie S story.

  3. Thanks for the info Chris. I only learned about this when I showed up to the meeting tonight. Its called a delegates assembly and we selected directors to finish the 2016 term. That would allow us to participate in the election of affiliate directors. I spoke briefly about the affiliate directors that the PNB will elect. I made a pitch for candidates from genuine affiliates whose mission is in alignment with Pacifica. I never mentioned the current directors but Cerene somehow took offense anyway. It was kind of funny that she objected to me talking about it. I actually had to explain that this was relevant because the people we elect would be voting for affiliate directors. Anyway, the PNB will be meeting next week to decide. Also, the LSB will be having its first meeting next week as well.

    1. Thank you, Michael. Cerene and her cohorts seem to be reaping what they have sown. The election results should have shown them that their scheme is transparent.

  4. "I don't think we have that much to say this morning, Bill." Yeah, Bob & The Potheads are on a roll tonight!

    1. Whatever Bob and his backups may have had to say was said a very long time ago. This is truly awful—one can overhear far better conversations on a subway or bus. They really need to pull the plug on this show, Bob will never do it. BTW the guy who precedes this show is quite good.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, in 1972! I heard that Bob eventually played lots of Mae Brussell on his show in the early 70s instead of doing his own show himself. I bet that was more interesting than this blab fest. This isn't even radio, it's just a personal three way call.

No idea who precedes him, as I am normally busy at that time of the night.

    3. He has a Spanish name and the program is "Musical Chairs"—the schedule only says that it's a "rotating music show"—a lot of spinning. :)

Yes it does sound like a conversation between 3 old men reciting call letters and grunting while groping for something different to say. This is a show that serves no purpose other than to kill air time.

    4. Oh, Musical Chairs, OK. That has different hosts each week. I caught it a few times. It always has different musical styles, if I remember correctly.

"Kill air time" indeed. Kill it dead!

    5. "The Musical Chairs" host is named Ed Morales if I am correct. He has an excellent, cool, intelligent delivery. He would be nice replacement for M. Saidia McGlaughin every 2nd Sunday of the month.

      Delete
    6. Yes, Ed Morales. He has a great voice and is thoroughly professional—he even speaks authoritatively about the music, which is well selected. I agree that he should not be rotated.

BTW, have you noticed that Bob's show became interesting as soon as he dropped out?

      Delete
    7. Yes, but that was because that allowed that caller to get in and focus the conversation onto political matters.

    8. True. Did you hear the shouting matches this morning with Felipe he is absolutely disgusting.

  5. charlie got through this morning on felipe's show ,and was cut off in pretty short order.
when charlie mentioned that black nationalism doesn't work , that was the end of the conversation.

  6. Immune from the concept of irony, Null's on right now hawking his "Immune Stuff"... meanwhile, on his PRN website, a new ad has gone up. Gary's offering up studio space for rent! Perhaps he can rent the space to the charlatans over at 'BAI. It certainly sounds like a more professional setup than anything that they possess.

New state of the art studio in the heart of Midtown NYC. (31st Street between Madison and Park Ave.)
Both studios are equipped with broadcast-quality audio consoles. Studio 1 has an 18 channel Audioarts Engineering board. Studio 2 has an Allen & Heath. Each has access to bring in remote broadcasts via Comrex BRIC and a Telos 12-line Digital Hybrid. The rooms are soundproofed and equipped with monitors and Electro-Voice RE20 Broadcast microphones.
Two studios available for rent at 1, 2 or 4 hour intervals at $80 per hour. Additional fee for engineer required.

    1. What happened? His dining set didn't fetch enough money to save his PRN?

Maybe Null should put that marketing brain of his to work and come up with a new powder called Black Stuff Matters...

Anyway, I'm not familiar with Audioarts or Allen & Heath. How do they compare to Beringer or Mackie, if any techies know?

      SDL

  7. Audioarts is a decent mid-level broadcast board. Mackie and Berhinger don't have tally lights or speaker muting, etc. Allen and Heath is a decent British broadcast "desk" as they call them.
