  2. To Hell with democracy- What WBAI needs now is FASCISM- Fascism is usually the last stop on the train to true democracy, as in Spain, Portugal, Chile, Argentina and Italy.

  4. Excerpt from pacificainexile.org about results at other stations. She is predicting a 10-10 split PNB with the current board choosing the next affiliate directors:

At Houston’s KPFT, Move KPFT Forward won 7 of 9 listener seats and 2 of 3 staff seats to sweep 3/4 of the available 12 positions. Elected listener delegates are Mark, Duncan, Krafka, Conkling, Williams, Hunter and Sinclair joined by James and Lamb as staff reps. McCary won a seat affiliating with both slates. The Siegel/Brazon-affiliated candidates who were elected were Casenave and Gartner as a staff rep.

At Los Angeles’ KPFK, the Committee to Strengthen KPFK won 7 of 9 listener seats and 1 of 3 staff seats to sweep 2/3 of the available 12 positions. Elected listener delegates are Song, Wong, Gomez, Childs, Kriegel, Marbach, and Reik joined by Lexa as a staff rep. The Siegel/Brazon-affiliated candidates who were elected were Pour, Virgo (who affiliated late in the election cycle) and Hernandez and Rice as staff reps.

Washington’s WPFW is the only station that has not yet posted election results, but with a large number of write-in candidates, their results will take longer to count.

The outlier was Berkeley’s KPFA where the Siegel/Brazon-affiliated Save KPFA slate took 5 of 9 listener seats and 2 of 3 staff seats for 58% of the available 12 positions. Elected listener delegates are Travis, Turner, Huggins, Crowell, and Williams joined by Wolinsky and Sawyer as staff reps. The United for Community Radio candidates who were elected were Tanaka, Wolfley, Scruggs, Vorhees and Alderete as a staff rep.

  5. Amy Goodman is getting arrested in North Dakota this morning for instigating a riot. I hope she gets what's coming to her. She has always been a left wing agitator more than an objective journalist and she has finally crossed the line. And on Succoth- A SHONDA!!

    2. Amy Goodman and Alan Nairn are agent provocateurs. They cause the catastrophes that they report on and then say, "I'm shocked to see that there is gambling in this establishment". "Your winnings, Madam", "Oh, thank you", as per Casablanca (1942).
"The fault, Dear Brutus, is not in our stars but in ourselves, that we are underlings". "The chickens have come home to roost". Unfortunately, she'll get off.

      Delete
    5. It is not clear who your post is directed at, but, in its present state of decay, Pacifica is beyond defense.

There is a dwindling group of concerned people who still have hope for its resurrection, which is something that can only be achieved by getting rid of the present occupants, the opportunists who regard the stations as tools for their own self-serving agendas. Recognizing this, the intelligent listenership that once were Pacifica's backbone have tuned out.

  12. I am sitting here at 5:00 AM listening to a re-broadcast (aired at least twice in the past week) with Berthold Reimers as a guest on Gary's Byrd last Friday show appealing to listeners for donations to Haitian victims of Hurricane Matthew. Instead of Reimers simply giving PSA's where to donate money, he is instead asking listeners to send their money to WBAI and they'll forward half of the money to Haiti. I find it totally shameful that Reimer's would act as a middleman, at a 50 percent commission, and capitalizing on the misery of his own countrymen. I wonder how much money Reimers has sent to Haiti out of his $100,000 plus annual salary???? Sad.

    1. It's the double standard. When it comes to black causes, you can break any law. When it comes to helping white people, either don't do it at all because you're an Uncle Tom or white supremacist or do it but keep to the letter of the law. WHITE LIVES MATTER.

    2. A while back, Prescod did the same thing for the Ebola in Africa disaster, without requesting the required FCC permission for pitching for a third party. Luckily for Pacifica, nothing came of it. I'll bet you Reimers didn't request permission, either.

      SDL

      Delete
    3. They did the same thing on today's 10-noon show, whose host, Albert Angeloro, was joined by Bates.

I doubt that permission was requested by anyone—they praised Prescod to the sky and mentioned that she had led the way with her Ebola thing.

      This is very messy, accounting-wise.

    4. I want proof any of that donation money goes to any charity. WBAI can't even use the donated money to send out owed premiums. Sounds to me like pulling at heart strings to get money they have no intent on sending off to any charity.

      SDL

      Delete
    5. I didn't hear this, so bear with me. Did Reimers name any NGO's or other groups specifically that would be receiving this money? Does HE decide which groups in Haiti get any of this money?

The positive version of this is Sean Penn's group that continues to do good work in Haiti. When a Marine colonel says I don't agree with Penn's politics. But he's an awesome administrator and helping lots of Haitians, you're doing something right.

      Delete
    6. If Reimers really cared about helping Haitians, he'd be screaming about how Obama appointed both Bill Clinton and Bush Jr. as "goodwill ambassadors". War criminals to help people fighting to stay alive.

      Delete
    7. Des Reimers know that there are Haitians and Bahamians who are still struggling from the last hurricane and Haitian earthquake? Many people w/no power in the Bahamas for almost 2 weeks. Even though there's an Inter Caribbean Disaster Agreement for mutual cooperation, they still struggle.

  14. Can someone explain the rules regarding pitching for a third party? If I give $50 to WBAI and $50 to Haiti Relief in care of the station, that might be OK but can I give $100 to WBAI and expect half to go to Haiti Relief? Why they don't just play a PSA for relief efforts. Its easy and encourages people to donate and then think more positively about donating to WBAI.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If I hear their pitches correctly, they are not expecting the donor to do the math, as it were. They say "fifty percent of your donation will go to help Haiti."

Remember, these are people who can't even follow the simple requirements for station ID.

      Delete
    2. From my understanding, non-commercial stations are not permitted to ask for donations for any entities other than themselves unless they request and obtain permission from the FCC on a case by case basis. I don't think it matter whether they pitch with a 50/50 type deal or run PSAs, since it is still considered pitching for a third party.

All they seem to have to do is send a letter to the FCC with an explanation and request for permission. It seems to be an easy process.

      SDL

      Delete
    3. Yes, the FCC generally grants permission, but is must be applied for and granted BEFORE the solicitation is aired. As for keeping the two charities (WBAI and HERF) separate in the accounting process, I'm sure Reimers doesn't follow FCC or IRS procedures. Prescod improvised and got it all wrong.

    4. Easy to do for people with even average intelligence. Difficult for nit wits like Pacificans.

  15. Actually you can do limited fundraising for non-profits. What the FCC prohibits is fundraising for outside organizations that alter or interrupt regular programming. Promos between shows would be ok, but extended pledgeathons, not so much. WBAI might be able to claim that they are fundraising and the premium thank you gift is a donation in your name to the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund. http://current.org/2016/08/what-stations-need-to-know-about-fundraising-partnerships/ has an article quoting Pacifica's legal eagle, John Crigler.

  17. According to the currents.org article, Reimers MAY be OK with raising money for Haiti relief if the programming is unaffected but he will need to show donation amounts and opens up the station to requests from other groups. The point is why take the risk? It would just be easier if he got a waiver.

    1. What I heard was silly and totally without substance. It is followed by Education at the Crossroads, which has long since morphed into something else and follows the current race-based propaganda Reimers and his sidekick, Bates, are pushing on what's left of the listenership.

Hard to believe that WBAI once was a significant source for truth and intellectual enlightenment.

    1. That's what the guy who does "Education at the Crossroads" said tonight as he tried to sell a CD containing "The Confessions of Nat Turner" as read by Brock Peters, and a discussion with Dr. Aptheker and con artist John Henrik Clarke.

The fact is that this audio is available at the NYPL and other libraries—this guy simply borrowed it and cut a disc.

If the crooks at WBAI told the truth, sales would go down considerably.

    2. One of the best sites for many to download from is still You Tube. Their mngmnt has changed the site code so people can't download videos. On the other hand, you CAN download the video and convert it to audio. The best tool for this that I've seen is DAP (Download Accelerator Plus). Almost all of the others are jammed with malware and a waste of time.

When I hear Pacifica pitching some CD or DVD as "not available anywhere else", I can find at least 80% for free online. You just have to know where to look.
