If your memory needs to be refreshed, here's a link to the original post on this outrageous banishment. And here is something posted to the dying BlueBoard this morning by Jim Dingeman.
One thing that aroused my curiosity is a reference to WHCR/CCNY asking WBAI to leave. Does anyone know if such a request has been made?

I saw this post a little while ago and was going to ask you if you knew anything about this. Dingeman has made quite a claim. I hope he can prove it. However, it seems that the new studio is on a fast track since the Smith fiasco. However, it could be due to lack of rent payments, also, if true.
ReplyDeleteSDL
You mean lack of uptown rent payments. Brooklyn is also behind and while the owners of the property are purportedly friends of WBAI, there is surely a limit to their patience.
DeleteThis whole incident is highly significant and, as we see, can have serious repercussions, yet it remains cloaked in secret. I bet if one were to dump out of the bag all the secrets Berthold Reimers is hiding, he could find a new location..... like Rikers.
Amazing all this.
ReplyDeleteI guess they thought this would be just another quiet execution. I'd go away, and all would be well with the world.. Is it true that CUNY wants 'Bai to leave because the Heat was called in?
Their own fault in a sense.
No one no staff person at the station has ever been turned over to the Cops. Not in our entire more than half century history. Things no matter how serious that includes physical assault sexual harassment thief vandalism were 'all' dealt with amongst ourselves.
In my more than 30 years this is how it was always done. Things that would get a person years in jail we handled on our own.
Things seem to be different now.
The so called evidence against me was examined by the authorities found not to be illegal, and They left. This seen by witnesses. No evidence that I had down loaded it either. Pictures of paintings of naked ladies. I like art, but my porn tastes are a tad different.
Management then had the CUNY Security take the computers away for examination of my possible crimes. I understand they were returned. If there was anything that could linked to me I'd be in jail or facing serious charges...as it is about six months later I'm home watching "Elementary"...seriously swell show!
If 'Bai is fucked over this I'm very sorry...but then I didn't start any of this.
What I would like is a public apology.
That, and my program back...Well I might not take the show. I have another life now...and I like it. However I would like my name cleared. I was accused of downloading porn including most horribly kiddie porn..and had the computers crammed with the stuff.
Um no.
Not guilty as both the Police, and it seems CUNY security seem to say.
So why am I still Banned for Life, and my reputation smeared in Shit.
I expect not answers no apology no reinstatement. This is just another ugly event in the recent history of this sad wounded institution that we all loved so much.
Love, Uncle Happy
You should really sue. If not, at least a letter to the FCC for their files or something. Is there a NY State human rights agency you could write to?
DeleteAs for police never being used against WBAI staff. Weren't the police used during the Kosof/Guzman fiasco? Didn't they bash in the door at the ESB transmitter room? Were they used at the final eviction of the church occupation? I thought they were.
SDL
Aw yes I forgot that.
ReplyDeleteYes the police went to the transmitter to restore control to the license holder..Pacifica. Okay then this makes the second time they were used in the past near 40 years. I suppose it good that it took another 40 or so years for it happen again, but it still sucks.
Btw my family is seriously pissed, and wanted to sue last summer, but I prevailed on them not to.
I made an oath never to harm the station in anyway many years ago...I mean to keep it.
I'll never do anything to harm the station.
I could sue, and win...slam dunk. However it was maybe three maybe four individuals behind this...Not the Station. Not my friends or even my old enemies. So if they lose the uptown space it's on their heads not mine.
Well, you could ask a lawyer if you could sue just the individuals involved and not WBAI. That would actually not be harming the station, but maybe even helping it.

An anonymous poster posted the following to the thread containing the Nov. 12 LSB meeting:
Delete"At that same meeting, Berthold told a staffer that Andrea Clarke, host of "Sister form Another Planet", was the person who called the police on Sidney."
I have asked Mitchel if he can give me the unedited recording from that meeting. If he does so, I will post it here in its entirety. Of course, this could be just another case of frivolous finger pointing, but some anonymous posters hide their ID because they are on the inside.
For Sidney's sake (well, for anybody who cares about WBAI), I hope we can get to the bottom of this, get Reimers to stop acting like a wimp, and put it away.
"At that same meeting, Berthold told a staffer that Andrea Clarke, host of "Sister form Another Planet", was the person who called the police on Sidney."
ReplyDeleteDid he really say this? If so again amazing. Andrea, and I are close friends, and have been for over a decade now. I guess he, and his associates didn't know this. In fact like many staff, and listeners she was unaware of this matter for sometime. She only found out when she called me to ask where I'd been.
That Berthold doesn't like Andrea is no secret. I assume he believed I felt the same way by the way he spoke about her in my presence. So no it is profoundly unlikely that she called the Heat. Who did is still a mystery. I have my suspicions, but I'll keep them to myself till the real truth, if ever, is revealed.
To me it's interesting that this whole affair has re-ignited.
I was at peace with it, and was getting on with my life. In some ways I'd rather it hadn't come back to life. This since I've been doing the very painful work of putting the station, and my history with it into the past. This so I could build another newer life.
Would it not be easier more honest for management to say there'd been a terrible mistake. Things got out of hand. Something like that.
I'd be willing to shake on that, and move on.
Sadly I doubt anything like this will ever happen. For one it takes moral strength to admit to a mistake or poor judgement, and the station at the moment just doesn't have that sort of thing. Bottom line there seems to be 'no evidence' against me.
So the matter is closed.
All they need to do is 'say so', and I'd be more than satisfied.
I doubt I'll come back...at least not for a long while, but I'd be happy with just that admission.
Stay Tuned.
Sidney: Why not go to internet broadcasting and broadcast your own show from home? You may have more listeners to it than BAI.
DeleteKew Gardens Troll
Uncle Happy Radio does have a certain ring to it...
DeleteSDL
Yes, but isn't it a bit Romper Room-ish? Perhaps it will work if Reimers is cast as himself.... the clown.
DeleteThe more I think about the web-radio idea the more friends suggest it the more I'm kinda into it. Just not now. Next year perhaps. Too much to deal with at the moment. I'll let all know if this goes through.

DeleteCurious to know what that comment was. At any rate, the banishment of Sidney Smith was long over due. Sidney had a LONG history @ the station. He used to remove station promos without permission, sabotaged programs with his engineering and was generally moody and disrespectful. He did finally see the light when he witnessed the open lying by Amy Goodman during the Christmas Coup. Otherwise, he was a Zionist's best friend @ WBAI. He needs to do his own thing - he has talent aside from his semi-pornographic fetish for young boys. Sidney needs a new platform away from WBAI!!!
