  1. A couple of quick afterthoughts:

It was nice to hear a civil, cooperative, functional meeting.

The amount of work involved simply to put Pacifica's financial affairs into coherent comprehensible order is impressive. At one level, given a complete loss of control, it's unsurprising. At another level it's just plain astounding what a hellacious mess these people had allowed to develop.

Maxie, at one level, doesn't dazzle me, but on the other hand he appears truly competent and committed to the task at hand, prioritizing sensibly and intelligently and brining his knowledge and experience to bear.

I suppose I'm simply not easily dazzled. Someone cue the tune from 'Chicago'.

I'd think that Pacifica being the people they are, the chances of ever mattering truly more widely and truly more meaningfully is slight, but the chance of survival, given their de facto inheritance of five valuable frequencies in five valuable markets, plus the archives, is probably very real.

Points to Tom Livingston, Maxie Jackson, and the handful of others who brought them to this point.

    1. With the door even slightly ajar, there is good reason to support such efforts, including Linda Perry, who by her own admission should have her head examined, but obviously has it working and where it belongs.

    2. With respect: I differ slightly. I'm rather more neutral, I think, as to the advisability of supporting reform efforts. I'm fully prepared to give credit where due, but I view Pacifica as roughly analogous to an investment gone massively sour/south long long ago.

If someone like a George Soros or a Laurene Powell Jobs were interested in taking over, I'd support that. Short of that, however, I see very little point in meliorist efforts. To what end...?

In any event a GS or a LPJ would have to fight Pacifica to save it from itself.

That's been tried, more than once.

      It hasn't gone well.

Speaking only for myself I'm strongly disinclined to fight to save people from themselves.

      The odds suck beyond comprehension.

    3. The odds do, indeed, suck, but as long as there ARE odds...

That said, no vestige of hope remains as long as Reimers is free to roam.

  2. My guess, only a guess, is that Maxie will move one way or another to replace Reimers.

It should be manageable, and Maxie is far from a fool or a pawn if I read him rightly.

What support is there, really, for Reimers?

    Zip.

    1. It's been ZIP for years, so there must be something we don't know about. According to Frank Lefever, Reimers was one of over sixty candidates! In all his years at WBAI, Reimers has, as far as I know, not accomplished anything beyond managing to stay on as the station continued to sink into a rendezvous with destruction.

If Maxie manages to get rid of Reimers (i.e. succeed where Summer failed), he will have taken Pacifica a giant step.

    2. When is Reimers' contract due for renewal?
