Tallies from the 2018 Winter Fund Drive

The following PDF file comprises scans of WBAI tallies as posted elsewhere by Jim Dingeman this evening.

They reflect the stuck-in-a-groove approach that never fails to fail and I think you will find them interesting, telling, and depressing. They also serve as an indicator of what may be coming in during the current Spring drive.

  1. Isn't it interesting that "Through the Opera Glass", which offers no premiums, does better than Bates and Kathy's make-believe African history, which promises several DVDs.

Truth conquers all, but the BAI bozos can't fathom that.

  2. KPFA Spring Drive goal is $620,000 with three days left they need to raise another $225,000. Average weekday income has been 32K a day. Weekend daily averages have been about 11K. They sometimes get a large bump last day and some trickles in after.

  3. lol. Just reviewed it. A huge chunk of what they bring in comes from Gary Null. If he ever leaves, they are completely cooked.

  4. I count $112,925 from Gary Null not including money from his retreats if any. The interesting thing is consistent numbers of $1000-$2000 with more in some timeslots. There are a number of rebroadcasts which bring in a few hundred each across various times.

    1. Any fund-raising document that originates at WBAI should—in my educated opinion—be taken with a large grain of salt. Most of us know by now how Berthold Reimers is given to financial manipulation and dispensing fuzzy, often conflicting accounting results.

The figures here are indeed suspect, but they are also—as always—misleading. We see tallies, but we have no idea of how much WBAI actually receives. It would not be difficult to furnish accurate figures by including breakdowns. How much does the product cost the station? What is the actual shipping cost? How do the actual purchases compare with actual sales to listeners? We keep hearing of "stock" accumulating, so what are the details?

Then there is the important question of permits and licenses. WBAI has a disc duplicating machine—what is it used for? If there are documents giving WBAI the right to reproduce and sell copyrighted material, why has nobody seen any?

In short, it takes but rudimentary logical thinking to conclude that the chronic lies and secrecy add up to Underhandedness, even criminality.

I submit that when WBAI gets away with its management-approved swindle, it is only because the station has been reduced to a model of broadcasting insignificance. It no longer has anything of value to say*, so people—even the embarrassing few who tune in for their daily dose of pap and propaganda— show no real concern for its future.

*With few exceptions, but even programs of substance are drowned out by the debris.

Sadly, Pacifica itself appears not to give a rat's ass at this point.

  5. New thinking is required. The programming and grids are perfect, something else must be wrong... the transmitter and antenna need replacing. That's the problem.

Oh wait, that's happening just 8 days from now....so all will be super real soon, just watch and see.

  6. I scanned through this, and find it interesting in how erratic donations seem to be. Null may pull in lots of the total money, but it seems it's less than expected. I guess even his followers are leaving WBAI, possibly for prn.fm.

Brady made some dough with his crap, I see. Maybe that should tell us something.

I have a closer look later, when I need a laugh.

    1. Yes, Brady's ability to raise funds through his conspiratorial fantasies, sales of bogus gadgets, and one-sided interviews with doom and gloom forecasters speaks volumes about him, but we probably ought to be more concerned over "management" that keeps such a door open.

    2. I suspect a conspiracy involving the conspiracy nut. How can he pull in anything? He's nuts. Certifiable. Maybe he is a cover for Gary Null so it doesnt look like Null is raising all the money. Perhaps the guy behind tablegate is involved. Perhaps these numbers are bogus like Chris says. It a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma.

    3. Unless you can understand how popular George Noory's Coast to Coast AM is in syndication, you won't really understand how an amateur like Brady appeals to people. Noory is on hundreds of stations every night with the same shit. Just take a minute and look at the show's website.

    4. If you remember the early supermarket tabloids, nothing about WBAI's fake "facts" should surprise you; if you remember what WBAI aired when it was an honest, intelligent station, hearing the current crap at 99.5 could have you doubting your own sanity.

  7. Something interesting re 'BAI's web stream.

When accessing the stream via a Roku box and the TuneIn app, *commercials* play before the stream kicks off. It was especially wonderful to hear one for Panera Bread kick off while Null was pontificating. I have not heard the commercials while accessing 'BAI's stream directly via a laptop, only via the TuneIn app.

I'd love to know exactly where the money's going from this little deal. But... does playing commercials on a nonprofit's stream violate that station's license? Or is that only an issue with over-air commercial broadcasts?

    1. I pick up the WBAI stream through Amazon's Alexa, usually with an unavoidable preamble that advertises MxDonald's or Dunkin' Donuts. I cannot imagine that these commercials bring WBAI any money to speak of, as it were. The inherent hypocrisy reflects WBAI's lack of moral values.

    2. No it doesn't.

    3. I would imagine the streaming service gets the money for providing the stream.

    4. I recall reading somewhere that the source (i.e. WBAI here) is paid an infinitesimal small amount for each spot, but I also believe PS spots can be had for a smaller pecuniary reward.

    1. You would dare criticize John Kane who is providing a screening of the film Drunktown's Finest? This is an outrage. I demand an apology for John Kane and his dozen or so listeners. He comes all the way down here from upstate to tell you what a messed up country you live in and point out your implicit bias. The least you could do is check your privilege and support his program with a $75 contribution to pay off the settlement.

    2. Kane is an obnoxious, intrusive pimple on Pacifica. He pursues a personal agenda and is, I believe, exploiting his ancestry as much as he is the current Pacifica's under-the-counter "management" and decay.

We have seen people of his ilk before and anyone wishing WBAI/Pacifica well has to concentrate on showing them a one-way exit.

    3. Mr. Kane spoke at a WBAI Rising event at last week's Left Forum at John Jay College. As did a few other favourites, one coming up from North Carolina, perhaps even passing Mr. Livingston on the highway. Ms. Mimi, not surprisingly, was MC:
22:56 Mr. Kane, 37:09 Mr. Bernard White, 50:45 Bro. Carlito (his Young Lords name), & 1:15:03 Mr. Dan Coughlin (MNN).
