An unvarnished blog that dips into the past and comments
on the present of WBAI-FM, a once significant, intelligent New York
radio station that for years has suffered chronic abuse from within and now
nears extinction. Your comments are welcomed and will not be censored.
And Kane was talking about the US annexation of Hawaii again this morning. When asked about what should be done, other than expelling all Hawaiian residents who are not of native Hawaiian descent, he had no intelligble answer.
As I understand it no sane person or entity will even consider a PSOA with Pacifica at this point simply because of their shambolic governance, finances, and the accompanying high probability of Ch 7 or 11 somewhere not so very far down the road.
In that sense perhaps the ever-eager MNN is their only PSOA option.
That would in turn argue for seriously considering a straight sale to a worthy nonprofit, which would please both KPFA and KPFK.
Let’s face it, we’ve long long long long understood WBAI is effectively dead or worse.
In the NPR world, Tom Livingston is a highly respected head hunter. He is sometimes associated with Marc Hand and others from Public Media Company. He would likely insist on major operational and personnel changes if he become involved.
Thank you, Ken. This may not be the right Tom Livingston, but—given his background—have a feeling that he might be the one nobody is talking about openly.
John Kane has it pretty good. He comes all the way down from western New York to come on the air, attack the US and Western civilization and then go back upstate. Once a month, he gets to sit on the LSB thanks to the two votes he got in the election and lecture the board members on how he is above petty politics while doing what Cerene tells him to do.
I don't think all the Japanese on Hawaii would like to be expelled. You never hear how in the past few decades Japanese have taken over Hawaii, do you?
My favorite Remnant caller is the woman who saves up her money because she likes the beg-a-thons, buys stuff, never receives it and calls her credit card company to complain. WTF?
Her shallowness demonstrates in an alarming way how the bozos have managed to strip the audience of rational thinking and stunt their intellectual growth. She listens for all the wrong reasons, allows the station to eat away at her credit card while not sending her the merchandise she paid for.
Listening to some of these audience remnants is at least as disturbing as listening to the amateur programs. Bates talks about "cutting edge" programs—has anybody here heard such a thing at 99.5?
WBAI/Pacifica hasn't been cutting edge for at least four decades or so, and a ragged rusty decaying edge is a very nasty very ugly very dangerous in the dysfunctionaon self-destructive sense thing.
Most of the callers to these shindigs are morons. That's why WBAI gets away with its shit.
Another woman said she didn't care if she received her premiums. OK, fine for her. But what about everyone else getting robbed? Yeah, she doesn't care about them because they shouldn't be so "selfish."
WBAI has been very cutting edge. Cutting the edge off the listener numbers, that is.
I wonder if Tom is litening?
ReplyDeleteSomeone please tell Prescod that a show named Sojourner Truth ought not to lie.
ReplyDeleteHurry up Chris. Prescod has only five minutes to raise $5,000.

ReplyDeletePerhaps the new yet-to-be-revealed iED will prove to be as transformative as did John Proffitt?

Tom Livingston?
Delete"Earthmom" read a commercial for MNN just before Reimers came on with his crap.

DeleteShall we cite the admittedly inimitable Wally Shawn re such changes?

John Kane is, to put it mildly, an a-hole. He should mount that awful Ghosthorse and ride into whatever can swallow him up.

One day I'd love to see one of these PNB idiots do a point of interruption to announce that their Chinese food (or Domino's or whatever) has arrived.

New emperor approaching the throne?

Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?"
They haven't told us, but a JUC leak is dripping the name Tom Livingston.
DeleteAny idea when the new IED will be named?
