Show you the money?

An interesting moment from the May 26, 2015 PNB Finance Committee meeting. KPFT's Bill Crosier asks Pacifica CFO Raul Salvador important questions. The answers, if you can understand them, may offer a clue as to why Mr. Salvador abruptly reigned May 6. You may recall that he was dismissed by the PNB last year, when his interim status was about to run out, but rehired covertly when the Wilkinson regime crawled in. This exchange was extracted by Tracy Rosenberg, who wrote the following lead-in:

"As usual former PNB vice-chair Bill Crosier asks the right questions. The answers are baffling. The three primary areas: 1) Will restricted funds used to pay operating expenses be repaid? 2) Why did Pacifica take out a loan for $156K to pay back employment taxes 6 weeks after getting an unsolicited $150,000 donation? 3) Why does an accounts payable list only itemize 20% of the amount Pacifica owes?"

79 comments:

  1. Let me get this straight... Accounts Payable is not the real books or the accounts payable, but only lists the bills that the stations are willing to pay... Pacifica is not anticipating paying for Democracy Now! and BAI is not anticipating paying rent... Why does nobody want to break Reimers' glasses and evict them? I also take it that severance pay is not forthcoming, no matter what kind of insane donations they get... and another one... We got a 165,000 donation to pay back taxes, but it hasn't been approved yet by the National Board... What didn't they approve? Accepting the money or spending it on back taxes... You can broadcast the choice tidbits and make it into a REALITY SITCOM!!!!!

    1. Confusing, isn't it? The real mystery is, of course, how Reimers and these Pacifica cons survive. They never read a law or rule that they couldn't ignore.

    2. I've said it before and will say it again. Pathetica and WBAI are so irrelevant and under the radar that no authorities even really know the stunts they pull. Their being so tiny works in their favor. If they were better known, they would have a problem.

    3. Couple of quick points:

      1) It's perfectly reasonable to draw a distinction between differing levels of urgency and necessity with respect to payables and debts – what *isn’t* reasonable is to use that as a ruse to avoid acknowledging the organization’s actual financial condition. That may, depending on the particulars, rise to the level of malfeasance and/or fraud.

      2) That said, it’s important to bear in mind that some of these folks may actually be relying on the shambolic state of finances not only as a smoke screen for their internal and private shenanigans, but in the hope it may protect them from legal and regulatory authority and its possible consequences – the ‘How could I have known?’ approach to defense.

      3) Unless Proffitt can pull off a near-miracle they’ll continue to circle the drain ever closer.

      4) The NYS AG’s Charities Bureau (which regulates nonprofits) *is* aware of WBAI, and they are aware of the CA AG’s investigation.

    4. Maybe some people complaining to the authorities is needed. The problem is that the people who complain are always obvious whack jobs that no one wants to deal with.

As for Proffitt. If he even tries to clean things up, he will get canned under some excuse. These clowns can't be cleaned up from the inside.

I guess that going after Pathetica and WBAI is no great brownie point for anyone, anyway.

    1. Yes, the reparations ride these poor ignoramuses are on was somewhat accelerated by the self-fabricated John Henrik Gates. His fantasies ran through the recent reparations "summit" like gulped cheap wine. There is certain irony in the fact that Dr. Ben's body lay dormant round the corner. Claiming to have been born in Africa, Ben-Jochannan came to NYC from the Caribbean. Like Gates, he was a largely self-published revisionist of history. They must be having a shortage of "legends," since they brought in Mr. "Opportunism" (aka father of the year, Jesse J.)—it was embarrassing and embraced by the mindless at WBAI.

Apropos WBAI, if anyone missed Mimi Rosenberg's reparations recitative this morning on the show dominated by Michael Hackin, it takes this farce to the max. I will be posting.

    2. @ Chris: When I hear Mimi's voice, I immediately change station. Her dramatic manner of speaking is a total turn off to me. Add that she is a psychotic ideologue, and there is nothing worthwhile coming out of the trash can under her nose.

Target marketing the reparations scam is just WBAI trying to find an ever decreasing audience by promising them some free money, if - IF - they first send in some money. It's like the African emails I get daily telling me I have someone wanting to send me millions of Dollars. Of course, as I will learn, I will have to cover the expenses first, to the tune of thousands of Dollars up front. Yes, there are a few people fall for this scam, amazingly.

If they are getting money out of whitey for reparations, it must be the few who don't buy Gary Null's magic potions. Anyway, I don't think liberals listen to WBAI, but a few "progressives" do. I think the liberals gravitate to WNYC. No idea to what the old communists/marxists gravitate these days.

I have just spent more time listening to WBAI (6 minutes) than I have in the past 5 days. TPCS is funny picking on the sound closet they are in.

    3. @ KGT: The most amazing thing to me is that they are able to convince the listener residue that supporting bland disc jockey fare, Afro-twisted history and amateur radio, in general, is somehow going to drive nails into pale skin. They don't grasp the importance of education and knowledge, embracing it only when opportunists like Joy DeGruy apply it to such for-profit gimmicks as "traumatic slave syndrome" and "the new jim crow," which are nourished by the surrealist historical scenarios of phantasts like Garvey, Gates and Ben, and rank with the tallest of biblical tales.

@SDL: A short sentence from Mimi Rosenberg is hard to take, but her reparations recitative this morning was so numbing that even you would have a problem reaching for the stopper.

I heard The PCRS last night.
The fire department made the station take down the boxes they were using to fill the space between the top of the wall and the ceiling.
There is no internet which is probably the biggest problem because with a web connection they could make work arounds to the lack of phone lines. I guess producers are using their phones if they want to google something.
I just wonder is the no web connection for the station or just the studio? I'd think Reimers would make sure there's a connection for his office so he can watch porn or whatever he does in there.

Hank expressed serious doubt about how long WBAI can continue. He said it's not what he's been told - sitting in the studio things look more grim that they are admitting. Clearly there would be phone lines if there was money to pay for them. And I think he sees the slap-dash studio indicating the laziness and lack of caring of management.

But I have to say overall the sound hasn't been too bad. Shows what even cheap stuff can do these days.
Ironically WABC has had an annoying hum in it's audio for days. Guess nobody cares about such things anymore.

Interesting on Minkoff. WBAI seems to attract people who had their medical degrees suspended, which leads me to...

It was "Dr" Hufnagel who had on Kevin Trudeau. I should add that Trudeau has convictions and jail time going back decades. His current incarceration was more of a last straw type thing. Trudeau is just a true sociopath.

I think someone from WBAI should go to the Ganges river and collect some of its magical water. They could then make little one ounce bottles and hawk them for $250 with a canard about how it has cured people for centuries. Just place one drop into 8 oz. of distilled water and voila! Anyway, Hufnagel should marry Ed Manfredonia. Both of them think and speak in the same style and accusations.

Remember years back when Oral Roberts was begging for money on TV and said if he didn't reach his goal God would call him home? Maybe Nully should pull that one out of the hat and try it with a million Dollar goal?

I just caught up with Twit Wit Radio and heard a promo for Aljezeera America at the beginning of the audio. Are hey getting money for that?

Remember Dr Gene Scott? I think Fass should copy his gimmick of wearing doofy hats, smoking a cigar and threatening not to speak until he makes $600. Wait, he already barely speaks and just plays music. If he does speak it's usually to some drug burnout like Wavy Gravy or Paul Krassner...

I think the feeling of malaise I get from the hosts when I tune into WBAI is starting to infect me.

Does WBAI accept donations of tech items for the new sound closet? I found a 50 foot spool of #18 insulted copper wire I don't need for anything. They're welcome to it. Maybe someone can send them some soup cans, so they can make phone lines.

This morning, they almost outdid themselves in that closet, but they have yet to explain how buying CDs and DVDs to support their minstrel show will benefit anyone but the WBAI cling-ons and opportunists.

Listen, the reparations thing is a scam for some opportunists to make money and political clout. Al Sharpton isn't the big guy anymore, and people are trying to take his place.. Like I said elsewhere, it's a scam where to make the promised money, you first have to give money. It's the African email scam in another form. For some reason, management at WBAI thinks they are going to make money at this. Well, slamming people hour after hour with this crap isn't going to accomplish anything but drive the last few people who want current affairs over to WNYC and/or other sources. Monotony is monotony, regardless of subject. The people who want to hear reparations shit are the people who give the least money to the station.

Taking out the KPFA/KPFK hosts' extendomercials (Blosdale, Prescod, etc.), the fact is that two people (Null & Goodman) make WBAI 50+% of their money. 5 or 6 more people (classical, Schmid, Kenney) make it another 25%-30%. Simple fact is that the "black" programming doesn't make enough for WBAI to survive in any way, shape or form for even a week. Reimers and Murillo know this.

WBAI exists for one reason to me, to be the butt of my jokes.

I wonder if it is even possible to have an intelligent black-oriented station in NYC these days. There are so many opportunistic, racist creeps slithering around, embarrassing blacks and whites alike. The WBAI morning show, as rigged by Murillo, is a tarnished example of the intellectual depth to which the station has sunk.

Murillo is harvesting a failed crop, the product of once expedient lowered educational standards—releasing the vultures to attack the vulnerable... dangling a blinky iWatch before the eyes of misinformed people whom time has passed by.

    4. I think the problem comes down to demographics. Would there be enough financial support for an intelligent "black" station in the high cost NY market? I don't know. WWRL tried and ended up, like WBAI, appealing to the lowest common denominator. There are many ethnic oriented stations in the NY market, but how well they do, I don't know, outside of the corporate owned Spanish ones, which have decent ratings. Ethnic stations seem to be mainly about popular entertainment. I know earlier this year that the one Spanish talk station changed format to "Mexican regional" music. Is that a hint? Remember that intelligent people of any ethnicity are a minority.

The problem with people at a station like WBAI is that they presume that since they are radicals, everyone else is. That's what happens when you live in a paranoid, tightly sealed milieu. Sorry, but most people aren't radicals of any political leaning. Stop thinking The Left Forum is the entire world and get out and about a bit more.

Anyway, I must use WNYC as an example, yet again. Here is a non-commercial station that has overtaken the big commercial, corporate talk stations in the NY market. They conduct themselves in a calm, rational and intelligent manner, and feature a wide range of news and entertainment. Maybe that should tell us something?

    to be 15% black ?
I think we need reparations for bai listeners ( or x bai listeners at this point) for having to endure years of substandard
radio. Following that logic , shouldn't bai have only 15% black programming ? Hmmm......

    1. Haskins is pushing that book and it's author, who is his girlfriend. She has more brains than he, but so do far too many. I was also listening and struck by the firefighter who broke into the Reparations Rag. It's time for some new steps.

Murillo's escalation of the station's racist leitmotif goes on. Now he is finally pulling back from the iPD position, but it is a pro forma move, he will still be heard on that sunset at sunrise show, and keeping his claws on the rudder.

Since there is no chance of a u-turn at this point, I'm all for listener reparation in the form of a permanent extension of WBAI's increasingly popular dead air.

  23. Maybe WBAI should have a program called "Take Charge Of Your Finances". ha, ha, ha.

    1. Great program idea and if "Mumia" can deliver his shallow pomposity from jail, I don't see why "Take Charge of Your Finances" couldn't be produced by an expert like Bernie Madoff. Of course, he would be assisted by Bernie White and Bertie Reimers.

  24. You really have to wonder how many listeners are lost by the playing of the same handful of extendomercials every day. It's not just all the beg-a-thons, but the same stuff every damn day. I wonder why there aren't more products up for sale.

Well, we do know there will be a week 5, as reported by TPCS. I'm betting on a week 6, at the least.

    1. I have wondered the same, I bet most who happen to tune in ad hear Natalie say that "it doesn't get much better than this" are quick to tune out. Ditto Blosdale, that poor idiot, Cauldwell, Haiti Haskins and the Null, The Ameno Sisters, et al....

Still no tallies made public, and even the marathon rent negotiations they used to shield Reimers with no longer get mention. Have you read scammer Mitchel's latest embellishments on the PR Waves? He just jumps in.... and lies there, so to speak.

    2. WBAI is more secretive and cultish than ever. Obviously, they have a lot to hide. The question is who are they really hiding from. The listener/supporters? No, because they are so dumbed downed they wouldn't even understand anything. The PNB or Proffitt? Maybe. Maybe they are afraid of someone finding that they have committed illegal acts? Ummm...

Cohen is just a goof, who has his foot in the WBAI door and feels like he's part of something. Is he a liar or a crackpot? Probably some of both. Is he of any importance? Don't make me laugh. He's just funny in small doses, nothing more. Hufnagel was more fun.

    3. Profitt being appointed the new Pacifica ED appeared to be a thin ray of light, but he extinguished that this week when he brought Raul, the ping-pong CFO, back as a "consultant." Intelligent people thought it was a joke, but it wasn't, so no more ray of light.

Mitchel used to have my respect, but he is a total sell-out, perhaps fueled by long-held fantasies of having his own show. I think some management asses are so moist that king-sized Pampers might be needed.

  25. yeah, they are not producing anything . All they are doing is replaying old , tired, boring stuff for the most part.
There is nothing new . And as far as the slavery stuff is concerned , you hear alot of the charlatans saying something
to the effect of . " well we have to let everybody know about what happened ,before we could move foward"
What i'm wondering is,( and i think we all know what happened by now) when does the moving foward part start? The answer is , NEVER. Gotta keep stirring the pot to sell their books or video's . Or whatever other crap they are pushing ...

    1. Move forward? They have been slithering backwards for a long time and they are now stuck in a hole of their own making. Today, that awful Prescod woman injected into her racist rant du jour a message to people who are neither brown nor black. She told them that they could also donate money.

    2. No shit?!?! You mean I am permitted to donate? Now, see another problem with WBAI? They don't even publicize that non black or brown listeners can donate. Jeez, when will they learn...

It reminds me of an idea I had during my recent fun with the Fasscisti. You have Fass, a man who has a documentary made about him, and you don't even make the DVD a premium during his show. Think about it. Here you have a perfectly legit item that would be ideal to hawk on his show, and would probably sell well, yet... [crickets]

    3. They will never learn. The Unnameable documentary is not black-oriented....damn, neither Malcolm nor deGruesome, Minstrel West, the Reparations Repertory Co., nor the Mumia Chorus are in it.

    4. Looks like the left forum is really doing some heavy hatin on whitey.

nothing new , just bai going with their default subject, yet again.

    5. If their admitted knowledge of history were not so twisted, they might have something significant to say, but this is—as you correctly suggest—the same old script with fantasy-based rewrites. Some people's minds never move ahead, they just stagnate and fizzle out. That's WBAI today, but I strongly feel that these ignoramuses will soon reap what they are sowing.

  26. Throwing rocks at cops , that is what they want people to see and look up to . This is truly the meeting of the mindless.
The only thing missing from this is the token , most likely black person in the back ground saying Amen brother or sista
as they pump their fist in the air. But than again it isn't over yet . lol.

    1. The sad thing is that they are resurrecting the stereotypes others fought so hard to erase. My black friends, without exception, are embarrassed by the theatrics, hatred, and general negativity heard throughout the day on WBAI.

Disgusting opportunism at the expense of progress.

  27. Exactly, I feel bad for all the decent black people out there that hear this drek and don't agree with it .
And there are certainly alot of decent black people out there for sure.

    So, what's new guys..?

And you wonder why me and my lady "friend with benefits" are listeneing to The Mighty KBC on my new Tecsun PL 680? Yes, the best rock hits (by Euro charts) staion on the radio. It's a Netherlands based English language weekly broadcast on 9.925 khz on Saturday evenings to Sunday mornings. Blows away any NY market music station...

Hell, even an atrocity like Bob Hope might be better than WBAI these days, not by much, but slightly...

  29. Whatever became of Pastor Paranoia Daulton Anderson? I tuned by this morning to hear Mimi, and tuned right away. However, I decided to check the archives and see he wasn't on the past couple of weeks, either. Is he not the golden boy? Is he not the savior with all those $10,000 donations coming in from churches? Yeah, right. Churches make donations...

Funny how Reimers two great finds, Daulton and Forlano, are nowhere to be found. I guess they make so much money that they don't need to beg...

    1. I don't know if he still makes his noise on WHCR, but WBAI has been blessed by his absence. That, in turn, may well be due to his lack of good taste, shallow knowledge of black American gospel music, and not-so-winning personality. Then, too—as you bring up—there is his propensity to overestimate his own ability to raise funds. Here, of course, Daulton has help from Berthold Reimers, who lives in a world of lies and illusions. They deserve each other.

Reimers has by now probably come to the realization that Daulton Anderson is not capable of dipping into the area's collection baskets, but I doubt if he has the brains to take advantage of a golden opportunity to dump him.

Forlano has a running commercial on WBAI, so I don't expect her to vaporize after this drive tanks.
